Here are some tips for us to be safe in an easy way . For example , we must remember some important rules in the playground. Before we do sports , we need to do some warm up activities , and after that we should drink some water. And in the classroom , we need to learn how behave well . Don’t run in the hallways . We mustn’t fight with or run after each other . And teachers need to keep an eye on the students after class and stop them from running . We students should remember not to be naughty and get ourselves into trouble . What’s more , we can have some practice to learn to protect ourselves from a fire . In this way , we can know where to go if there is a fire in our school . Emergencies (紧急情况) don’t happen very often. But when they do, you want to get help first. No one wants to spend time looking up the phone numbers.

In 1968, the United States government wanted one number that people could call for emergencies. They decided that 911 was easy to remember and people could dial it quickly. The very first 911 call was made on February 16, 1968, in Alabama. Today, 911 is used for emergencies in most parts of the United States and many parts of Canada.

Other countries may use other numbers. In Great Britain, it’s 999. If you’re not sure which emergency number is used in your area, check your phone book.

When to call

Never call 911 as a joke or just to see what might happen. The only time you should call 911 is when a person is badly hurt or in danger right now! So call when there is a fire, a car accident, or sudden sickness, etc.

When in an emergency call

When you dial the 911 operator(接线员),it’s always OK to give out your information. Speak slowly and clearly when you explain what’s happening. What happened? Where are you? Who needs help?

Don’t hang up(挂断)!

If you have to call 911, do not hang up until the operator tells you it’s OK to do so. That way, you can be sure that the operator has all the information to offer help fast.

A dog named Faith dialed 911 when her owner who was in a wheelchair fell and needed help.

Gabriel Garcia Márquez ,who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982,passed away at the age of 86 on April 17,2014. The world paused to remember the cultural giant(巨匠).

Garcia Márquez was born in Colombia, but he spent most of his adult life in Mexico City. As one of the most famous writers, he was widely regarded as “a giant of 20th-century literature”. Garcia Márquez wrote in a style called “magical realism ”(魔幻现实主义). In such works, people live a daily life in a certain period of time in history. But meanwhile, magical things happen to them.

Garcia Márquez is best known for his 1967 novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude (《百年孤独》),which has sold about 50 million copies. It tells the tale of the small and isolated town of Macondo which was separated from the outside world —of its founding and its troubled history over a hundred years. The story is a metaphor(暗喻)for the development of Colombia since the 19th century. As Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said, Garcia Márquez wrote about “the very essence(精髓) of the Latin American beings”.
