Richard Hosford fulfilled an ambition of founding a music festival his home county in 1991.
Richard said, “At that time, my aim was to create a festival with an informal atmosphere and the highest possible artistic standards.”
The festival was first planned in Canon Ray Nichols. The Gaudier Ensemble(乐团),of which Richard is a member, has returned each year to perform a wide range of chamber music(室内乐)at the festival.
Richard said, “Over many years we have built a special relationship with our audience. Teaching and encouraging a love of music are important elements of the festival, which has always included a concert for children, and now runs classes for promising young local musicians. Arriving from across Europe, the members of the Ensemble stay with hosts in the village and enjoy making music with old friends in the wonderful St. Mary’s Church.”
The event is now an established favourite on the South West music festival scene and this year will mark its 25th year with a programme that includes pieces by Mozart, Francaix, Schubert and Bruch from Dec 9 to Dec 12.
There will also be a late-night concert of light American gems by Gershwin, a family concert and a new commission by poet and broadcaster James Crowden and Lillie Harris from the Royal College of Music.
The festival will also welcome a group of recent Royal College of Music students who will perform alongside the Gaudier Ensemble at some concerts and work with talented local musical youngsters.

Instagram is containing so many photos of food — now a pop-up diner in London is taking advantage of this new trend by letting people settle the bill for their meals simply by uploading photos of their dishes to social networks.
I always thought people's taking pictures of their food was kind of silly, but at this new pop-up restaurant in the UK, I'd probably do it too. 'The Picture House' is the world's first pay-by-photo restaurant—you order, click a photo of the food, share on Instagram and eat for free!
The restaurant belongs to frozen food giant (巨人) Birds Eye, who came up with the idea to cash in on people's addiction to photographing food and sharing the pictures online. They conducted a survey and found that more than half of the British population regularly took pictures of their meals. So they realized it was a better way to advertise their new dining range.
The pop-up diner was open in Soho, London for three days in May, and is now moving to other major UK cities. They serve two-course meals that customers don't have to pay for, if they photo and Instagram it.
The restaurant is a part of Birds Eye's 'Food for Life' campaign(活动), a new marketing project that aims at changing the way people look at frozen food. "Taking photos of food enables people to show off and to share their mealtime moments—from the everyday to the special," said marketing director Margaret Jobling.

The dangers of sitting all day are obvious. Researchers have shown that remaining sitting for extended periods of time (like at your 9-to-5 desk job) can do harm to your health. While exercise is a big part of reducing the harmful effects of sitting, it was unclear how many gym periods were needed to help – until now.
A new study, published in The Lancet, shows the ideal formula for reducing the negative effects of a sedentary（久坐的）job. Instead of a fixed number of hours spent exercising, the ratio（比率）depends on how much you sit: people who work a typical eight-hour day should spend at least one hour each day moving. If you sit six hours a day, you should spend half an hour exercising. The research also indicates that the exercise doesn’t have to be all once – or rigorous（严格的）. The team behind the study analyzed data from a pool of a million adults over the age of 45 in Western Europe, the United States, and Australia. Using previous data, the researches examined data from 16 published studies and used it to determine how much exercise is required to compensate for sitting. Their recommended daily exercise goal is higher than previous advice but not necessarily less achievable, given it can be completed throughout the day.
Fitting in an hour of exercise a day sounds especially discouraging if you have a desk job, but there are plenty of workouts you can complete before and after work. Even if it means taking a 10-minute walk during lunch, your body will thank you in the long run.
