I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard my name calling. I was chosen to play the leading role in the play, that was my dream. As a shy and thin girl, I was used to be quite afraid of speaking in the public. But my parents and teachers always encourage me to do so. Now I have changed great. In class, I am often the first one to stand up and answer questions even if I may take some mistakes. No pains, no gains. Now I am always brave enough overcome the difficulty in my heart and have changed in a lively girl. But my experience shows that we should not be afraid of losing faces and only in this way can we make progresses.

which was my dream作定语,修饰整个主句内容,所以which was my dream. used to do sth. make mistakes“犯错,出错”,是固定短语,所以take改成make。 enough to do sth.“足够做某事”,是固定用法,所以enough 后加 to。 change into“变成”,是固定短语,所以in→into。 Next winter, which you will spend in Harbin, I’m sure, will be another exciting holiday. Have you seen the film Titanic, whose leading actor is world famous? The famous basketball star, who tried to make a comeback, attracted a lot of attention. The film, whose director is an old man, is very instructive. York, which I visited last year, is a nice old city. Please give the book to Jessica, whom we met in the hall just now. None of us accepted the reason he explained, for which he was absent.

What should you think about in trying to find your career? You are probably better at some school subjects than others. These may show strengths that you can use in your work. A boy who is good at mathematics can use that in an engineering career. A girl who spells well and likes English may be good at office work. So it is important to do well at school. On the other hand, you may not have any specially strong or weak subjects but your records show a general satisfactory standard. Although not all subjects can be used directly in a job, they may have indirect value. Knowledge of history is not required for most just but if history is one of your good subjects you will have learned to remember facts and details. This is an ability that can be useful in many jobs.

Your school may have taught you skills, such as typing or technical drawing, which you can use in your work. You may be good at metal work or cookery (烹饪术) and look for a job where you can improve these skills.

If you have had a part-time job on Saturdays or in the summer, think what you gained from it. If nothing else, you may have learned how to get to work on time, to follow instructions and to get on with older workers. You may have learned to give correct change in a shop, for example. Just as important, you may become interested in a particular industry or career you see from the inside in a part-time job.

Facing your weak points is also part of knowing yourself. You may be all thumbs when you handle (运用) tools; perhaps you are a poor speller or cannot add up a column of figures. It is better to face any weaknesses than to pretend they do not exist. Your school record, for instance, may not be too good, yet it is an important part of your background. You should not be apologetic about it but instead recognise that you will have a chance of a fresh start at work.

A. may do well in his future work if he chooses a career according to what he is skilled in.
