I was growing up in Kuala Lumpur in the early 1960s, children from different races and religions played and studied in harmony. At that time my family lived a stone's from Ismail's. When I walked into the house after school, the first thing I noticed was a box with items I recognized from my dad’s office. When he told me that he was laid off, I thought he was joking.
