How to protect children Web fans from unsuitable materials on-line while encouraging them to use the Internet has long been discussed in the U.S.
For some parents, the Internet can seem like a jungle, filled with danger for their children. But jungles contain(包含) wonders as well as danger and with good guides, some education, and a few precautions(预防措施), the wilds of the Internet can be safely navigated(领航). “Kids have to be on-line. If we tell our kids they can’t have chance to the Internet, we’re cutting them off from their future.” said an expert.
Most kids have started to use search engines. Many of them are great for finding plenty of interesting Internet sites, and they can also find places where you might not want your kids to go. There are some search engines designed just for kids. A certain software contains only sites that have been chosen as safe. The most popular way to limit chance would be to use a “content screener(过滤器)”, but this can’t be wholly depended on, and the best thing parents can do is to talk to their kids and let them know what is OK or not OK to see or do on the Internet. Another way is that mum or dad is nearby when the child is surfing the Internet.
Four other tips:
●Don’t put the PC in a child’s room but keep it in an area where mum or dad can keep an eye on things. That also makes the Internet more of a family activity.
●Ask your child what he or she has been doing and about any friends they make on-line.
●Tell your child not to give on-line strangers personal information, especially like address and phone number.
●And tell your children never to talk to anyone they meet on-line over the phone, send them anything, accept anything from them or agree to meet with them unless you go along.

I made a decision on the way down to the vacation beach cottage to meet my family. For two weeks, I would try to be a loving husband and father. Totally loving. No ifs, ands or buts.
The idea had come to me as I listened to a talk on my car radio. The speaker was reading a Biblical about husbands’ being thoughtful of their wives. Then he went on to say, “Love is an act of will. A person can choose to love.” To myself, I had to say that I had been a selfish husband. Well, for two weeks that would change.
And it did. Right from the moment I kissed Mary at the door and said, “That new yellow sweater looks great on you.”
“Oh, Tom, you noticed,” she said, surprised and pleased. Maybe a little confused(困惑). After the long drive, I wanted to sit and read. Mary suggested a walk on the beach. I started to refuse, but then I thought, “Mary’s been here with the kid all week and now she wants to be alone with me.” We walked on the beach while the children flew their kites.
So it went. Two weeks of not calling the company where I am a manager, and a visit to the shell museum though I usually hate museums. Relaxed and happy, that is how the whole vacation passed. I made a new decision to keep on remembering to choose love.
There was one thing that went wrong with my experiment, however. Mary and I still laugh about it today. On the last night at our cottage, preparing for bed, Mary looked at me with the saddest expression.
“What’s the matter?” I asked her.
“Tom,” she said in a voice filled with sadness, “Do you know something I don’t …”
“What do you mean? ”
“Well…that checkup I had several weeks ago…our doctor…did he tell you something about me? Tom, you’ve been so good to me…am I dying?”
It took a moment for it all to sink in. Then I couldn’t help laughing.
“No, honey,” I said, holding her in my arms. “You’re not dying; I’m just starting to live.”

4.What made Tom change his mind to be with his family more?
A. His wife’s illness. B. His vacation to the beach.
