When I waited in the living room I saw my dad come up the path with a white envelope in his hand. I had waited all day for this. As soon as he set foot in the house I reached over him to get it. He threw the envelope on the table and said that it was nothing to get excited about.

I was looking forward to seeing my report for my first year in high school. I opened the report and saw that I came in first in my class. I was feeling so excited. But when I saw my dads cold face and heard his cold words I was really hurt by how he ignored (忽略) my hard work. I didnt know why but said nothing and just shut the door with a bang. I got a good mark and I wanted to share my happiness with someone but I felt alone.

Thinking over what had happened to us I suddenly realized something. I was so busy studying that I had kept away from my family unconsciously We used to watch movies and play tennis together on weekend afternoons. I wondered when that had stopped. Then I realized they had not stopped but I just no longer joined them.

My family is very important to me so I do not want to destroy that relationship. I wanted to apologize for my rude behavior because without their support my achievements meant nothing. As I went over to him my dad said Youve done well and your mother and I are proud of you. But we do not want to use your achievements to define (定义) who you are.

Although my head may be in the clouds with all my ambitions my family keeps my feet on the ground. Whatever you do remember family is always important.

I had waited all day for this. As soon as he set foot in the house, I reached over him to get it. The envelope. / The white envelope. 2. I opened the report and saw that I came in first in my class. I was feeling so excited. / He felt excited. 3. I was so busy studying that I had kept away from my family unconsciously Because he was (so) busy studying. / Because he was busy with his study. 4. Whatever you do, remember family is always important. 5.do well干得好;be proud of为……

What do you think of open-book exams? Do you have anything to say about this kind of exam? Here are several opinions about open-book exams from some students and their teacher.

May

We students have so many burdens (负担) in our school life. Maybe the examination is the greatest one. Open-book exams can make our burdens lighter I think. At least it means that we need not learn so many things by heart any more.

Hill

Open-book exams do not mean students do not need to recite (背) the textbooks any more. Instead it shows how much students really understand about the textbook. It may mean we need to spend even more time learning history and politics because the open-book exam means going deeply into the textbooks.

Sun

We need a long time to learn for history and politics exams because there are so many things to remember. And sometimes the results are not very good even if we have spent a long time studying. But if we are able to take textbooks into our exams we will save time and we won’t have so many headaches.

Tang (teacher)

Open-book tests are harder for students because the tests make them feel they do not need to understand the textbooks any longer. They only depend on the textbooks and spend most of their time looking for answers during exams. Sometimes they might not even be able to finish their tests because they have wasted too much time looking for answers.

Several months ago my husband and I were on an island for a long weekend with our five-year-old twin daughters. As we went back and forth about what to do next our girls jumped in and told us exactly what they wanted to do. “We want to go to the butterfly museum” said Emily and Hanna.

As soon as we walked into the main area of the museum we saw thousands of beautiful butterflies. They all flapped their colorful wings.

My girls were jumping up and down and I knew we had made the right decision to come to the museum. They were having so much fun.

I turned to our museum tour guide because I was curious (好奇的) and asked “How long do butterflies live?”

She said “About ten days.”

“What can butterflies do in ten days?” I asked.

The guide stopped looked at me and said “They make the world a more beautiful place.”

“Wow I said “I never thought about butterflies like that. Thank you.”

After we said goodbye I couldn’t stop thinking about what the guide had said. She was right. We all have something to offer the world with the time we have. When we focus our gifts on taking care of each other every day we can make a difference.

Life used to be fun for teenagers. They had lots of interests and they used to spend their spare time on them, like seeing a good film, going for a picnic or listening to music. But for many young people, life is harder now. Jobs are difficult to find. It is hard to find a place to live in. Teachers say students have to work harder than they used to. They are less interested in how to spend their spare time and more interested in passing exams. They know that good exam results may get them better jobs.

But teenagers often feel stressed because they have too much homework to do both at school and at home. They have lots of exams to take. They are too busy studying every day that they don’t have their own time to do what they are interested in. Now more and more teenagers are getting short-sighted(近视)as they study too long every day. So they should think of ways to relax themselves. They should make a plan for study and find time to relax as much as possible.

English Online made a survey on The Ways for Students to Relax. Here are the results. Some think that watching TV is good. Some believe that sometimes playing computer games isn’t a bad way. Others think the best way to relax is to do sports with classmates.
