Now you’re a fool for helping. “I don’t want to get involved” seems to have become a national motto. One summer I was driving from my hometown of Tahoe City, California to New Orleans, Louisiana. In the middle of the desert, I passed a young man standing by the roadside. He had his      out and held a gas can in his other hand. I drove right by him. There was a time     you’d be called a jerk (混蛋) for passing by somebody    .

Several days later I was still      about the hitchhiker (搭便车的人), about how I didn’t even lift my foot      the accelerator (加速踏板) for him. “Does anyone stop any more?” I wondered. I recalled Blanche DuBois’s famous line—”I have always depended on the kindness of strangers.” Was that      these days? One way to test this would be for a person to journey      the US without any money, just      on the good will of others. What would happen? Would he find food, shelter and support?

   The idea intrigued (激起兴趣) me.

The week I      37, I realized that I had never done something truly crazy.      I decided to really do it: travel from the Pacific to the Atlantic without a penny. I would only accept      of rides, food and places to sleep. For six weeks I hitched 82 rides and covered 4,223 miles across 14 states. I was treated kindly      I went. I was      by people’s readiness to help a stranger.

In Oregon, a house painter named Mike      the cold weather and asked if I had a coat. I didn’t, so he gave me a big green army-style jacket. A lumber-mill worker in Michigan named Tim invited me to a      dinner with his family in their shabby house. Then he offered me a tent. I refused, but Tim insisted, packing it into my bag himself. I found people were generally compassionate. Hearing I had no money and would take none, people bought me food or      with them whatever they happened to have. Those who had the      to give often gave the most.

I’m      to all the people I met for their rides, their food, their shelter and their gifts. My faith in ordinary folks was    . I was proud to live in a country where people were still willing to help. In spite of everything, you can still depend on the      of strangers.

The satellite was launched on a Long-March-3C carrier rocket at 11:41 pm, sources at the centre told Xinhua News AgencyThe satellite separated from the rocket 26 minutes after its launch and was then successfully delivered into a geostationary transfer orbit (地球同步转移轨道).

Developed by the China Academy of Space Technology under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, the satellite is the country's second data relay satelliteThe first, Tianlian I-01, was launched on April 252008

As planned, China will launch space module Tiangong-I, which was designed as a platform that will dock with an unmanned spaceship, Shenzhou, for the county's first space-docking mission this year

Two more Shenzhou spaceships will dock with Tiangong-I next year, and one will be manned by two or three astronauts, according to China Manned Space Engineering Office, which was the main user of the Tianlian I series data relay satellites

“The new satellite can cover a greater area to track and command the country’s space vehicles in low-Earth orbits, such as manned spacecraft and remote sensing satellites, from a higher position in outer spaceOnly three satellites of this kind are needed to form a global communication network, and China has two now” Pang Zhihao, a researcher and deputy editor-in-chief of Space International, said

Love and Friendship

They are both so much related to each other. And both are so dissimilar! What are the differences between friendship and love? Is platonic(柏拉图式的) friendship possible between persons of the opposite sex? 1.

What is friendship? Why do we call a person our friend? When do we call someone a very good friend? If we care for a person, if we are always ready to help that person and if we share most of our thoughts with a person, they are our good friends. We can always count upon our good friends in an emergency. We are always sure that our friends will understand why we acted in a certain way. 2. The friendship is so deep and the relationship is so intimate, that most of the things are automatically understood by our friends.

   3. In a relationship of deep love, all the sharing that we discussed above is taken for granted. But love transcends(超出) all this. During love, we are attached with a particular person, while in friendship, one may have many friends. A loving relationship makes one so much attached to the other that one gets pained if his/her beloved is hurt! Love also involves a physical element. 4. This is a vital difference. Nature gives us love so that the species can go forward. Nature does not give us friendship.

Your heart beats will never increase in anticipation of meeting your friend.  5. You will not feel totally lost, if you don’t meet your friend for a few days. You will not have dreams in your eyes thinking about your friend. But in love, you will do all this and much more. Indeed, there is no comparison between love and friendship.

A.What about love?

B.My answer is “Yes”.

C.Let us try and understand.

D.Friendship does not have that.

E.We need not explain anything to our very good friends.

F.You will not lie awake at night thinking about your friend.

G.The physical element may include hand in hand while walking.

Our school lies on the foot of a mountain with a small river passes by. It used to be a quiet, clean and beautiful place for a school. It is a pity which things have changed after a chemical factory was built near our school one year ago. Every day the factory produces many waste water and some harmful gases. The terribly pollution is harmful to our health. What’s bad, the great noise from the factory had a bad effect on our activities. As a result, our school is no longer what it used to. Our teachers and students are miserable beyond the description.
