Every year, wildfires(野火) destroy much forest land. Homes are broken down, and thousands of people die. Smoke jumpers are helping to stop this.

Smoke jumpers are a special kind of firefighters. They jump from places into areas that are difficult to reach by car or on foot. They race to put out fires as fast as they can.

At a fire site, smoke jumpers first examine the land and decide how to fight the fire. Their main goal is to stop fire from spreading. Using basic tools such as shovels and axes, smoke jumpers clear land of burnable material like plants and other dry material. They carry water with them too, but not much.

Although most smoke jumpers are men, more women are joining. Most important are your weight and height. Smoke jumpers in the U.S. ,for example ,must be 54 to 91 kilograms, so they don’t get hurt when they land, or get blown by strong winds.

Smoke jumpers must be able to live in the wilderness. They also know how to find food in the forest and even make simple furniture from trees.

They work is dangerous, the hours are long. But for these firefighters, smoke jumpers isn’t just a job. They love being able to jump out of planes, fight fires, and live in the forest. As a 28-year-old  smoke jumper Alexi Tishin says,“This is the best job for the strong and brave.”

I don’t think we should set off firecrackers (爆竹) during holidays. It is really noisy when people fire them during midnight. People around can’t sleep well. Besides, it brings air pollution and lots of rubbish. Most people do not clean the rubbish after they set off firecrackers. So I think there is no need to set them off anymore during holidays.

Setting off firecrackers is a tradition during Chinese festivals. They set them off to celebrate or wish a happy new year. The ceremony is very important in Chinese people’s lives.
