If anyone had told me three years ago that I would be spending most of my weekends camping, I would have laughed heartily. Campers, in my eyes, were people who enjoyed insect bites, ill-cooked meals, and uncomfortable sleeping bags. They had nothing in common with me. 1.

The friends who introduced me to camping thought that it meant to be a pioneer. 2. We slept in a tent, cooked over an open fire, and walked a long distance to take the shower and use the bathroom. This brief visit with Mother Nature cost me two days off from work, recovering from a bad case of sunburn and the doctor’s bill for my son’s food poisoning.

I was, nevertheless, talked into going on another fun-filled holiday in the wilderness. 3. Instead, we had a pop-up camper with comfortable beds and an air conditioner. My nature-loving friends had remembered to bring all the necessities of life.

4. We have done a lot of it since. Recently, we bought a twenty-eight-foot travel trailer complete with a bathroom and a built-in TV set. There is a separate bedroom, a modern kitchen with a refrigerator. The trailer even has matching carpet and curtains.

5. It must be true that sooner or later, everyone finds his or her way back to nature. I recommend that you find your way in style.

A.This time there was no tent.

B.Things are going to be improved.

C.The trip they took me on was a rough one.

D.However, I learned a lot about camping later.

E.I must say that I have certainly come to enjoy camping.

F.After the trip, my family became quite interested in camping.

G.There was no shade as the trees were no more than 3 feet tall.

1. 根据前文“If anyone had told me three years ago that I would be spending most of my weekends camping, I would have laughed heartily. Campers, in my eyes, were people who enjoyed insect bites, ill-cooked meals, and uncomfortable sleeping bags. They had nothing in common with me.(如果三年前有人告诉我,我会把大部分周末时间花在露营上,我一定会开怀大笑。在我看来,露营的人喜欢被虫子咬,吃不熟的饭菜,还有不舒服的睡袋。他们和我毫无共同之处。)”可知,作者使用虚拟语气的句式表达了“自己不会成为露营者”,暗示了对于露营的态度的转变。由此推知,作为该段末尾句,应是回归现实,与前文形成转折关系,即“自己成为了一个露营者”。选项D“However, I learned a lot about camping later.” 2. 分析可知,设空句与后文为总分关系,后文“We slept in a tent, cooked over an open fire, and walked a long distance to take the shower and use the bathroom.(我们睡在帐篷里,在篝火上做饭,走了很长一段路去洗澡和上厕所。)” C“The trip they took me on was a rough one.” 3. 根据后文“Instead, we had a pop-up camper with comfortable beds and an air conditioner.(相反,我们有一个有舒适床和空调的临时帐篷。)” A“This time there was no tent.”提及这次露营没有帐篷,可用于引出后文“Instead, we had a pop-up camper with comfortable beds and an air conditioner.(相反,我们有一个有舒适床和空调的临时帐篷。)” 故选A项。 4. 根据后文“We have done a lot of it since.” F项“After the trip, my family became quite interested in camping.(旅行结束后,我的家人对露营非常感兴趣。)”中“after the trip”解释了“since”为“那次露营之后”,且句中的“became quite interested”与后文“we bought a twenty-eight-foot travel trailer complete with a bathroom and a built-in TV set.(我们买了一辆28英尺长的旅行拖车,里面有一间浴室和一台内置电视机。)” 5. 根据后文“It must be true that sooner or later, everyone finds his or her way back to nature.” E“I must say that I have certainly come to enjoy camping.(我得说,我已经开始享受露营了。)”

The common cold is the world's most widespread illness, which is plagues(疫病) that flesh receives.

The most widespread mistake of all is that colds are caused by cold. They are not. They are caused by viruses(病毒) passing on from person to person. You catch a cold by coming into contact, directly or indirectly, with someone who already has one. If cold causes colds, it would be reasonable to expect the Eskimos to suffer from them forever. But they do not. And in isolated Arctic regions explorers have reported being free from colds until coming into contact again with infected people from the outside world by way of packages and mail dropped from airplanes.

During the First World War soldiers who spent long periods in the trenches(战壕), cold and wet, showed no increased tendency to catch colds.

At the Common Cold Research Unit in England, volunteers took part in Experiments in which they gave themselves to the discomforts of being cold and wet for long stretches of time. After taking hot baths, they put on bathing suits, allowed themselves to be with cold water, and then stood about dripping wet in drafty room. Some wore wet socks all day while others exercised in the rain until close to exhaustion. Not one of the volunteers came down with a cold unless a cold virus was actually dropped in his nose.

If, then, cold and wet have nothing to do with catching colds, why are they more frequent in the winter? Despite the most pains—taking research, no one has yet found the answer. One explanation offered by scientists is that people tend to stay together indoors more in cold weather than at other times, and this makes it easier for cold viruses to be passed on.

Managing a popular tourist attraction can be kind of like throwing a party — everyone wants to come and have fun, but nobody wants to help clean up when it's over. But the Faroe Islands have come up with a creative way to take care of their home and welcome visitors at the same time.

An official notice on the islands' national tourism website reads "closed for maintenance (维护), open for voluntourism.”Following a successful plan this year, the country has made the decision to "close” its major tourism sights and attractions during the weekend of April 16-17, 2020.     I want to share with you a story from 28 years ago. My dad was a used car salesman. Every Thursday night, he would head off to Shreveport, LA for an auction (拍卖会). Most of the time, I drove a car over there for him so he could sell it at the auction.

One day I was riding with my dad when he noticed a hitch-hiker(搭便车的人) with a backpack. Without hesitation, he pulled the car over and offered him a ride. Dad asked him his name, and proceeded to talk to him about all sorts of things. Dad asked him where he was going. The hitch-hiker told him that he was heading for the west. I can’t recall why but he told Dad a lot of things that had occurred to him and that persuaded him to make that decision. He talked about the tragic events that occurred to him several years before. He was in low spirits, but I could see that the hitch-hiker’s attitude was changing as someone was really listening to him.

We drove 45 minutes before the hitch-hiker got off. We pulled over and Dad told him to keep his head up and things would start looking up for him soon. He reached into his pocket and handed the hitch-hiker a twenty-dollar bill. The guy smiled. He nearly lit up right there on the cold, dark highway.

We drove on and my dad did not say a single thing. I was still completely amazed by what I had just witnessed. I was always told by everyone never to pick up a hitch -hiker and yet my dad did it every single time he saw one. While reflecting upon that story I came to understand that just one single kind act could change someone’s life, and I am sure that my father’s deed made that poor man’s day.

National Day is one of my favorite holidays. I am fond travelling around during this holiday. Last National Day , I went to Qinhuangdao with our family. Since it was my first time to going to the seaside, I felt very excited. During the days in Qinhuangdao, we took a sunbath on the beach, seeing the sunrise in the early morning and ate delicious seafood in the nice restaurant. Although we don’t take enough clothes and felt a little cold, but we still enjoyed ourselves there. The hotel we lived in even prepared a lot of meaningful gift for us travelers. How warmly we felt! Everything there went so perfect that I even didn’t want to leave at the end of the holiday.
