Make conscious (有意识的) decisions.

3. However, more possibilities open up when we are at peace. Go over your list of what ifs and make a more balanced list of the best and worst situations possible. Then talk to loved ones about what you would do in each situation and the choices you do have.

4.

We often see fears as our greatest enemy, yet they provide us with a great opportunity for self-growth. What if we were to see them as friends who want to help us become a better person? Let your fears help you instead of hurting you. Then, write down what comes to you.5.

It may be common knowledge that what British people call “football” is known as “soccer” in the US, and “colour” in British English (BrE) goes without the “u” in American English (AmE). But according to a chart made recently by website Grammar Check, these are far from being the only differences between the two countries, use of English. The chart outlined 63 of the main contrasts (对照) between BrE and AmE, from the more well-known “lift/elevator” and “autumn/fall” to the lesser-known “garden/yard” and “petrol/gasoline”.

Some of the vocabulary mismatches are so different that two people in a conversation may fail to understand each other. For example, the two countries have different names for certain food. “Biscuits” and “sweets” in Britain are known as “cookies” and “candies”, respectively, in the US. But while getting food names mixed up only causes puzzle, some misunderstandings may lead to embarrassment (尴尬) if you’re not careful. If a British man in the US is asked to show up a party in “pants”, there’s a chance that he might get a lot of stares from other guests. “Pants” in the UK means underwear. “Trousers” are what you need to ask a British friend to wear if you don’t want them to cause a scene among your friends.

However, even if 63 is already a lot, there are still many differences that the chart failed to cover. If a US girl walks into a UK barber and says “I want to have my bangs fixed’’, for example, it could take a while before the hairdresser realizes what she means is actually her “fringe”.

1.By listing many examples in the first paragraph, the author mainly tells us       .

A. BrE and AmE are different in spelling

B. BrE and AmE have a lot of similar words

C. there are many differences between BrE and AmE

D. people are much more familiar with “lift/elevator”

2.The underlined word “respectively” in paragraph 2 means       .

A. separately    B. both

C. respectfully    D. similarly

3.If a British man is asked to attend a party in “pants”, he might       .

A. feel uncomfortable or ashamed

B. be attractive among his friends

C. be puzzled at others’ dresses

D. ask for a pair of trousers instead

4.We can conclude from the last paragraph that       .

A. the British are slow in understanding

B. the chart includes all the differences

C. the hairdresser doesn’t know “bang”

D. AmE differs quite a lot from BrE

Sports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature .However, whether you are on the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that your sport of choice might have great influence on the environment.

Some sports are resource-hungry. Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses(球场) in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf is often held responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas.

There are many environment-friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don’t need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you don’t have to worry about resources and your purse. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control.

Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment-friendly equipment and buying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”. They are better replacements for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, it’s free.

1.Which of the following is the author most probably in favor of?

A. Cycling around a lake.    B. Motor racing in the desert.

C. Playing basketball in a gym.    D. Swimming in a sports center.

2.What do we know about golf from the passage?

A. It is popular in Portugal and Spain.

B. It causes water shortages around the world.

C. It pollutes the earth with chemicals and wastes.

D. It needs water and electricity to keep its courses green.

3.The author uses power walking as an example mainly because______.

A. it is an outdoor sport    B. it improves our health

C. it uses fewer resources    D. it is recommended by experts

4.The author writes the passage to_______.

A. show us the function of major sports

B. encourage us to go in for green sports

C. discuss the major influence of popular sports

D. introduce different types of environment-friendly sports

Iggy Azalea doesn’t look like a rapper (说唱歌手). On May 17, she attended the 2015 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, US, with pink hair and a blue coat. She looked like a model, but won big as a rapper. The 24-year-old Australian beat out big names like Nicki Minaj and Drake to win the award for Top Rap Artist.

It’s a great achievement in many people’s eyes, but Azalea knew what she wanted from the beginning. In 2006, the girl aged 15 dropped out of high school because she was only interested in art class. She worked as a house cleaner to save money for her dream the following year. Before her 16th birthday, Azalea left her home, a tiny town in Australia, for the US, making up her mind to become a rapper. Moving from Miami to Houston to Atlanta, she started rapping in the Southern-style accent (口音) of her surroundings and her single “Ignorant Art” came out in 2011. From then on, she has never looked back.

However, her style has caused lots of discussions. She might be one of the most polarizing (两极化的) artists. She raps with a southern American accent, even though she speaks with an Australian one. Many people say that she overuses black culture in her music.

Her supporters are against it. Female American rapper MC Lyte defended Azalea in an interview (采访), saying she should not be judged because of where she’s from. “Hip hop is around the world, no color lines.” MC Lyte said. Azalea herself is proud of her music. “I really want to be focused on what I’m doing,” she said in an interview. “That’s really dangerous when you’re trying to figure out ways to entertain (娱乐) people and make them happy. I don’t want to be a part of that.

1.After leaving for America, Azalea ________.

A. went to an art school for her dream

B. developed her southern-style accent rapping

C. published her single “Ignorant Art” soon

D. worked as a cleaner in the first year

2.Azalea’s music style was questioned because ________.

A. She sings with Australia accent

B. She misunderstands Hip Hop

C. People think her music is of too much black style

D. People don’t accept singers from southern America

3.By saying “I don’t want to be a part of that.”, Azalea means that ________.

A. she’s unwilling to become popular    B. her music is not for entertainment

C. she refuses to learn from other rappers    D. her music is not affected by otherstaste

4.Which of the following can best describe Iggy Azalea?

A. warm-hearted and easy-going    B. strong-minded and confident

C. honest and serious    D. talented and friendly
