(2016·上杭模拟)For many years, people around the world were crazy about a boy with blond hair. And perhaps these times have returned, as a new movie version of classic The Little Prince has been released in many countries. It came out in China on Oct. 16. Now we have an opportunity to look again at what has made this boy so popular with so many people of all ages, all over the world since the novel’s first publication in 1943.
A pilot crashes his plane in the desert. In this terrible situation he meets the Little Prince, who is a strange being from an asteroid(小行星). We learn that the Prince has been on a long journey. He left his home after an unhappy love affair. This love affair wasn't with another of the Prince's kind, but with a beautiful rose. Looking for a way to mend his broken heart, he toured planets looking for wisdom.
He met many different beings, but all were foolish and disappointed the Prince. One was a king who hated other people and lived on a planet with no other people on it. Another was a businessman who, because he could count the stars, thought that he owned them. Nothing that these men had to say to the Prince could end the sadness caused by his unhappy love affair.
Now he is on Earth, still in search of answers. In truth, this is where the story ends for the Prince. He dies in the desert. But because of his great warmth, he tells the pilot a story so that the pilot will not feel hopeless. The Prince tells him that although his body is dying, his soul will return to his asteroid.
But although the story is unhappy in this respect, the generous, self-sacrificing Prince himself sets an example to us. We all know that a great, popular book doesn’t have to be a happy one. Generally, the books that win the hearts of readers are neither simply happy nor simply sad. It will both charm you and make you cry, but you won’t quite understand why.

For 26 years, the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival (CICFF) has featured (放映,上演) thoughtful, memorable, meaningful and culturally diverse children's movies. This film festival in 2009 ran from October 22 to November 1 and featured more than 200 films. It is the largest annual film festival in North America and the only Academyqualifying children's film festival in the world. Winners in the short film category go on to compete in the Oscars! The films came from more than 40 countries. More than 25,000 people attended.
TFK Kid Reporter Meghan Pfau was there. “We don't just show kids movies. We ask kids to think about what they are watching,” CICFF Director Nicole Drieske told TFK. “Five minutes before the lights go down we have a talk with everybody. We talk about what's going on in our minds when we are watching a movie,” she explains. “Movies teach us so much. If we're not paying attention to what we are watching, we aren't learning as much as we could.” Viewers vote to give their opinions at the end of each movie. The CICFF staff wants kids to feel like they are an important part of the festival.
Kids can also attend interactive (互动的) workshops led by filmmakers, media professionals and celebrities. And young talent takes part in the CICFF. Elevenyearold Shiropa Purna wrote and directed Our Boat is Our Address, which is featured in the festival. “My dad is a director and he taught me many things,”Shiropa says.
