No fight can end, and no friendship can move on, until everyone says these little words: I’m sorry. Sometimes, though, they can be difficult to say. 1.

It’s not about winning.

Friendship aren’t like the Super Bowl, and there should never be a winner and a loser. When you start fighting with a friend, it may feel important that you “win” the fight by proving(证明)you’re right and he is wrong, or by making him be the first to apologize(道歉).

2.

You may have heard the expression “His pride(骄傲)stood in the way.” It is usually used to describe a person who is so determined(意志坚定)to be “right” that he lets an opportunity(机会)for happiness pass him by forever. 3. Remember: as time goes on, we usually forget who was right and who was wrong in a disagreement, and only remember the sadness of losing a friend. Take the first step.

Are you sick of fighting? Do you think this fight is just not important enough to ruin(毁灭)your friendship? 4. You don’t have to take full responsibility(责任)for starting the fight, or even say that your feelings were wrong. But you should find something you did or said that’s worth apologizing for. Maybe you’re sorry that you let the fight go for so long, of that you overreacted(反应过度)to something your friend did. If you say you are sorry, it’s like an invitation for your friend to do the same. 5.

A.Stop thinking about your pride.

B.Then try to be the first to apologize.

C.It’s about taking some responsibility for the argument.

D.Once you’ve both said it, you’ll both feel a million times better.

E.There are some special cases when you shouldn’t be the one to apologize first.

F.Here are some things to keep in mind.

G.Don’t let this happen to a friendship you care about.

My husband, my four-month-old daughter and I set out on a five-day driving journey from California to Washington. We had to stop frequently because our little child needed to stretch from the car seat.

One of our stops, once we crossed the Oregon border, was at a Black Bear Diner. Walking towards the front door we noticed a gentleman standing at one side. He was clearly untidy, without shoes and wearing worn clothing. We passed right by him and opened the restaurant door. Then something told me to go back.

Holding my daughter, I turned around and said to the gentleman, “Sir. Are you hungry?” He said, “Yes.” I then asked, “May we buy you something to eat?” He responded with, “Sure, I can order something myself.”

My husband opened the door and the gentleman went straight to the counter. I told him to order whatever he wanted. The manager of the restaurant came over quite quickly and looked frightened. I spoke before he had an opportunity to say anything. “This gentleman will have lunch with us today,” I said. “Please add his order to our bill.” The manager said with a frown(皱眉), “Okay.” We turned to our table and the gentleman said, loudly and quickly, “Thank You!” We were seated and upon completing our meal we were handed our bill. I asked my husband what the gentleman had ordered. One fresh orange juice, one coffee, one breakfast combination with a side of hash browns.

When we left the restaurant I looked for the gentleman but didn’t see him, but that very small act just made my day. I hope in some small way we were able to add some joy to his life, even if only for a few minutes.

"If you want to see a thing well, reach out and touch it!"

That may seem a strange thing to say. But touching things can help you to see them better.

Your eyes can tell you that a glass ball is round. But by holding it in your hands, you can feel how smooth and cool the ball is. You can feel how heavy the glass is. When you feel all these about the ball, you really see it. With your skin, you can feel better. For example, your fingers can tell (辨别) the difference between two coins in your pocket. You can feel a little drop of water on the back of your hand, too. You can even feel sounds against your skin. Have you ever wanted to know why some people like very loud music? They must like to feel the sounds of music.

All children soon learn what "Don't touch!" means. They hear it often. Yet most of us keep on touching things as we grow up. In shops, we touch things we might buy: food, clothes. To see something well, we have to touch it. The bottoms of our feet can feel things, too. You know this when you walk on warm sand, cool grass or a hard floor. All feel different under your feet.

There are ways of learning to see well by feeling. One way is to close your eyes and try to feel everything that is touching your skin. Feel the shoes on your feet, the clothes on your body, the air on your skin. At first, it is not easy to feel these things. You are too used to them!

Most museums are just for looking. But today some museums have some things to touch. Their signs say, "Do touch!" There you can feel everything on show.

If you want to see better, reach out and touch. Then you will really see!

1.By touching things ______.

A. you can learn more about them

B. you will learn how to reach out your hand

C. you will have a strange feeling

D. you can tell what colors they really are

2.Which of the following can be the best title of the story?

A. Touching by Feeling    B. To See or to Feel

C. Ways of Feeling    D. To See Better ---- Feel

3.Which of the following parts can tell you the difference between two coins in your pocket?

A. Your foot    B. Your eyes

C. Your fingers    D. Your back.

4.Which of the following is NOT true?

A. Touching is helping us to see better.

B. Visitors can't feel the things on show in any museums.

C. Feeling is a good way to learn.

D. Our skins may help us enjoy music.

It was New Year’s Eve. Everyone in the city was getting ready for the three-day celebration, including the gardener of the king’s garden.

There was a large group of monkeys living in the garden. They always followed the advice of their leader, the monkey king.

The gardener wanted to celebrate the New Year’s holiday, just like everybody else, so he decided to hand over his duties to the monkeys.

He went to the monkey king and said, "My honorable friend, would you do a little favor for me? New Year is coming. I wish to celebrate it. So I must be away for three days. Here in this lovely garden. There are plenty of fruits and berries and nuts to eat. You and your subjects may come and eat as much as you wish. In return, please water the young trees and plants while I’m gone."

The monkey king replied, "Don’t worry, my friend! We will do a terrific job! Have a good time!"

The gardener showed the monkeys where the buckets were kept. Feeling confident, he left to celebrate the holiday. The monkeys called after him, "Happy New Year!"

The next day, the monkeys filled up the buckets, and began watering the young trees and plants. Then the king of the monkeys addressed them,"It is not good to waste water. Therefore, pull up each young tree or plant before watering. Inspect(检查)it to see how long the roots(根)are. Then give more water to the ones with long roots, and less water to the ones with short roots. That way we will not waste water, and the gardener will be pleased!"

Without a second thought, the other monkeys followed their king’s orders.

Meanwhile, a wise man was walking by the garden. He saw the monkeys pulling up all the lovely young trees and plants, measuring their roots, and carefully pouring water into the holes in the ground. He said, "Oh foolish monkeys, what do you think you’re doing to the king’s beautiful garden?"

They answered, "We are watering the trees and plants, without wasting water! We were commanded to do so by our king."

The man said, "If this is the wisdom of the wisest among you — the king — what are the rest of you like? Intending to do a worthwhile deed, your foolishness turns it into disaster!"

1.Why did the gardener hand over his duties to the monkeys?

A. He expected to meet his wife and children.

B. He wanted to spend a three-day holiday.

2.Why were the trees and plants pulled up?

A. To plant new ones.    B. To move them to a new place.

C. To pick up the fruits.    D. To check their roots.

3.How do you guess the gardener would feel when he returned?

A. Regretful(后悔的).    B. Relieved(放松的).
