Here are six steps to better studying.

Pay attention in class

Do you have trouble paying attention in class? Are you sitting next to a loud person? Tell your teacher or parents about any problem that is preventing you from paying attention.

Take good notes

Write down facts that your teacher mentions or writes on the board. Try to use good handwriting so you can read your notes later. Its a good idea to keep your notes organized by subject.

Plan ahead for tests and projects

Waiting until Thursday night to study for Fridays test will make it hard to do your best. One of the best ways to make sure that doesnt happen is to plan ahead. Write down your test dates. You can then plan how much to do after school each day, and how much time to spend on each topic.

Break it up

When theres a lot to study, it can help to break things into several parts. Lets say you have a spelling test on 20 words. Instead of thinking about all of the words at once, try breaking them down into five-word groups and work on one or two different groups each night.

Ask for help

You can’t study effectively if you don’t understand the material. Be sure to ask your teacher for help. If youre at home when the confusion occurs, your mom or dad might be able to help.

Sleep tight

So the test is tomorrow and you’ve followed your study plan—but suddenly you can’t remember anything! Dont panic. Your brain needs time to digest all the information youve given it. Try to get a good nights sleep and youll be surprised by what comes back to you in the morning.

Are you sitting next to a loud person?Tell your teacher or parents about any problem that is preventing you from paying attention可以推出,a loud person是阻止别人集中注意力的人,也就是爱和其他人说话的学生,故选C。 2. Be sure to ask your teacher for help. If you’re at home when the confusion occurs, your mom or dad might be able to help. Try to get a good night’s sleep and you’ll be surprised by what comes back to you in the morning. Be sure to ask your teacher for help. If you’re at home when the confusion occurs, your morn or dad might be able to help可以知道答案,所以选B。 Try to get a good night’s sleep and you’ll be surprised by what comes back to you in the morning.

The world itself is becoming much smaller by using modern traffic and modern communication means. Life today is much easier than it was hundreds of years ago, but it has brought new problems. One of the biggest is pollution. To pollute means to make things dirty. Pollution comes in many ways. We see it, smell it, drink it and even hear it.

Man has been polluting the earth. The more people, the more pollution. Many years ago, the problem was not so serious because there were not so many people. When the land was used up or the river was dirty in one place, man moved to another place. But this is no longer true. Man is now slowly polluting the whole world.

Air pollution is still the most serious. It’s bad for all living things in the world, but it is not the only one kind of pollution. Water pollution kills our fish and pollutes our drinking water. Noise pollution makes us angry more easily.

Many countries are making rules to fight pollution. They stop people from burning coal in houses and factories in the city, and from putting dirty smoke into the air.

Pollution by carbon dioxide is now the most dangerous kind of air pollution. It is caused by heavy traffic. It is true that if there are fewer people driving, there will be less air pollution.

The earth is our home. We must take care of it. That means keeping the land, water and air clean. And we must take care of the rise in population at the same time.

3.Air pollution is the most serious kind of pollution because ________.

A. it does harm to all living things in the world

B. it makes much noise

C. it makes our rivers and lakes dirty

D. it makes us angry more easily

4.Which of the following is NOT true?

A. The problem of pollution is not so serious because there are not so many people living on the earth.

B. The pollution of the earth grows as fast as the world’s population does.

C. If people could go to work by bike, it would be helpful against the problem of carbon dioxide.

D. Many countries are making rules to fight against pollution.

People have smoked cigarettes for a long time now. The tobacco which is used to make cigarettes was first grown in what is now part of the United States. Christopher Columbus, who discovered America, saw the Indians smoking. Soon the dried leaves were transported to Europe. In the late 1800s, the Turks made cigarettes popular.

Cigarette smoke contains at least two harmful substances, tar and nicotine. Tar, which forms as the tobacco burns, damages the lungs and therefore affects breathing. Nicotine, which is found in the leaves, causes the heart to beat faster and increases the breathing rate. Nicotine in large can kill a person by stopping a person’s breathing muscles. Smokers usually take in small amounts that the body can quickly break down.

Nicotine can make new smokers feel dizzy(头晕) or sick to their stomachs. The heart rate for young smokers increases 2 to 3 beats per minute. Nicotine also lowers skin temperature and reduces blood flow in the legs and feet. It plays an important role in increasing smokers’ risk of heart disease and stroke.

Superfast doubledecker (双层) trains will be taking passengers from London to six big cities in the UK by 2033. The first phase (阶段) linking London to the West Midlands with a connection to HS1 is expected to open in 2026, and the second  phase to Manchester and Leeds in 2032.

The government set out a plan for the highspeed rail network in 2012. When the project is finished, it will take less time to get to London from major cities like Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds. Traveling at a speed of up to 250 mph, passengers will be able to come and go from Birmingham to London in 49 minutes, reducing the journey time by almost half from one hour and 24 minutes.

A journey from Birmingham to Leeds will be reduced from two hours to 57 minutes and a journey from Manchester to London will be reduced from two hours and 8 minutes to one hour and 8 minutes.

“HS2  is an  important  part of transport's  lowcarbon future,” Transport  Secretary Justine Greening said. Some people aren't happy about the plan, though. HS2 will cost around £33 billion. It will also be built near some towns and villages, disturbing the people that live there.

But the Chancellor of the Exchequer (财政大臣) George Osborne thinks it will help build the future for Britain. “It's a longterm decision,” he said.

HS2 is designed for everything around the needs of the passengers. It will provide a new and exciting travel experience. There will be plenty of room, intelligent ticketing, a good service and high quality comfort and access to trains. This is a transport network for the new century and beyond.
