Shadow Ridge Summer Camps offer so many exciting things for campers to do. Unlike other camp programs that include horses as a small part of their program, at Shadow Ridge horses are the program! We are 100% horse from stable(马厩) management, nature walks, and track rides to bedroom furnishings.
Horses help us achieve many of our aims. Girls can learn to develop responsibility, self-confidence and personal connections in their lives while having fun. Using horses as a wonderful tool for education, our camps offer an interesting place for growth and learning.
Imagine each girl having her very own horse to spend time with and a best friend to love and take care of. Each camper is responsible for a horse for the week. Our riding program provides a lot of riding and lesson time. Campers will learn how to take care of the horse and the tack(马具), as well as how to ride. Days are filled with horse-related activities to strengthen the connection between each girl and horse, as the girls learn to work safely around the horses.
At Shadow Ridge we try to create a loving, caring family atmosphere for our campers. We have “The Bunkhouse” (4 girls), “the Wranglers Roost” (4 girls), and “The Hideout” (2 girls) in our comfortable 177-year-old farm house. All meals are home cooked, offering delicious and healthy food for the hungry rider.
Our excellent activities create personalized memories of your child's vacation. Each child will receive a camp T-shirt and a photo album (usually 300~500 pictures) of their stay at camp.
Our camps are offered during June, July and August 2007, for small groups of girls aged 13~16 years, not only from Canada but also other parts of the world.

In a book called Magnificent Obsession，by Lloyd C．Douglas，a description is given of people helping others but doing it secretly.When difficult problems worried an individual，friends nearby would meet to discuss possible solution without the individual knowing their actions.When a solution was agreed upon，one or two of the friends would carry out the plan and solve the problems secretly，to the great delight of the worried individual.The helpers would stand by privately，contented with their success.No reward was given to the problem solvers，not even a sincere “thank you”，because they were never known.
This concept is popular today but in a different way.The phrase “pay_it_forward” is now used when one person helps another.However，the person being helped may not be able to repay the person or group that helped them.So rather than return the favor to their helpers，they are supposed to help someone else in the future，which means they pay it forward.It is the sense of responsibility that makes us want to give back in equal measure to the one who has helped us.But，in this case，the responsibility turns to helping someone in the future.
Suppose your elderly grandmother pays part of your schooling.She may tell you there is no need to repay her because it is a gift from someone who loves you very much.Nothing would please her more than to have you use her money to get a good education.
You may never be able to repay her for such a gift.However，she not only gave you some money，but she provided you with an example that you should also help other people who need it.
People with serious needs are everywhere.Many are children who need better clothes，more books and even better schools.Some are elderly people who can’t afford their medicine or a doctor’s care.Consider how you can “pay it forward”rather than pay money back to your grandmother.

There is no doubt about it．The best way to learn new words is to do it unconsciously．I don’t mean while you’re unconscious．I mean while you are unconscious of the fact that it is sinking in.
That is how I learnt the 30,000 words in my vocabulary by living in an English-speaking world, mother tongue．I just pick them up．But some of them may be misunderstood．Now, to misunderstand does not mean not to understand．To misunderstand is to understand but incorrectly.
The 5 % mislearnt of all the words we “know” will be the least frequently used words, as the more frequently used words are less likely to be mislearnt．Some of the misunderstandings may live with all our lives, without knowing that we got them wrong.
Many English teachers think that this natural method of learning words in one’s own mother tongue can be used for a second language learning．They teach their students how to play the Guessing Game．“There is no time to look up in your dictionaries all the new words you come across,” they will say．“You have to practise guessing what the word means from the context.”
This method of guessing in a second language learning does not work．It may succeed in many cases, but results in hundreds or thousands of wrongly-guessed meanings of words.
And what’s more, there are more separate meanings than there are words themselves．Our learners’ dictionaries usually have many meanings．A good dictionary is what makes self-learning possible.
