阅读理解.

The Internet is full of headlines that grab your attention with buzzwords (流行术语). But often when we click through, we find the content hardly delivers and it wastes our time. We close the page, feeling we've been cheated. These types of headlines are called “click bait”.

A headline on Business Insider reads:“This phrase will make you seem more polite”. First, when you click through, you find another headline:“Four words to seem more polite”. Then, on reading the article, you find it's actually an essay about sympathy. And what are the four words? They're “Wow, that sounds hard”. On some video websites, you might encounter headlines such as “Here's what happens when six puppies visited a campus”. It turns out that it's just some uneventful dog footage (连续镜头).

Nowadays, with the popularity of social media, many news outlets tweet (推送) click bait links to their stories. These tweets take advantage of the curiosity gap or attempt to draw the reader into a story using a question in the headline. These click bait headlines are so annoying that someone is attempting to save people's time by exposing news outlet click bait through social media. The Twitter account @ SavedYouAClick, run by Jake Beckman, is one such example.

Beckman's method is to grab tweets linking to a story and retweet them with a clicksaving comment. For example, CNET tweeted “So iOS 8 appears to be jailbreakable but ...”, with a link to its coverage of Apple's product announcements. Beckman retweeted it with this comment attached: “...it hasn't been jailbroken yet.”

Since founding the account, Beckman's Twitter experiment has brought him more than 131,000 followers. Beckman said,“@ SavedYouAClick is just my way of trying to help the Internet be less terrible.” Asked about his goal, he said,“I'd love to see publishers think about the experience of their readers first. I think there's an enormous opportunity for publishers to provide readers with informative updates that include links so you can click through and read more.”

Are you sometimes a little tired and sleepy in the early afternoon? Many people feel this way after lunch. They may think that eating lunch is the cause of the sleepiness. Or, in summer, they may think it is the heat. However, the real reason lies inside their bodies. At that time about eight hours after you wake up your body temperature goes down. This is what makes you slow down and feel sleepy. Scientists have tested sleep habits in experiments where there was no night or day. The people in these experiments almost always followed a similar sleeping pattern. They slept for one long period and then for one short period about eight hours later.

In many parts of the world, people take naps (小睡) in the middle of the day. This is especially true in warmer climates, where the heat makes work difficult in the early afternoon. Researchers are now saying that naps are good for everyone in any climate. A daily nap gives one a more rested body and mind and therefore is good for health in general. In countries where naps are traditional, people often suffer less from problems such as heart disease. Many working people, unfortunately, have no time to take naps. Though doctors may advise taking naps, employers don't follow it! If you do have the chance, however, here are a few tips about making the most of your nap. Remember that the best time to take a nap is about eight hours after you get up. A short sleep too late in the day may only make you feel more tired and sleepy afterward. This can also happen if you sleep for too long. If you do not have enough time, try a short nap even ten minutes of sleep can be helpful.

1.Why do you sometimes feel sleepy in the early afternoon?

A.Because you eat too much for lunch.

B.Because it's hot in summer.

C.Because your body temperature goes down at that time.

D.Because you didn't have a good sleep last night.

2.What can we learn about “naps” according to the last paragraph?

A.All the people in warmer climates take naps in the middle of the day.

B.Doctors need to take naps while employers don't.

C.If you take naps every day, you'll never suffer from heart disease.

D.Taking naps regularly is beneficial to people's health.

3.What can we infer from the passage?

A.If you get up at 6:30 am, you'd better take a nap at about 1:30 pm.

B.Taking a nap whenever you want will do good to your health.

C.You will feel less sleepy if you sleep for a long time.

D.You'll feel sleepy at regular intervals.

4.What would be the best title for the text?

A.Just for a Rest

B.All for a Nap

C.A Special Sleep Pattern

D.Taking Naps in Warmer Climates

Some people like modern art, while others say that is rubbish. But a cleaner who works in the Tate Gallery in London isn't able to tell the difference. The woman, whose name isn't known, mistook a work of art by the German painter Gustav Metzger for a bag of rubbish, and threw it out with other bags. The plastic bag, which contained pieces of paper and cardboard, was later recovered outside the gallery, but the artist thought that it was too damaged to be put on show again. 78yearold Mr Metzger explained that the exhibit, which he said was a copy of a similar work he had created in 1960, was meant to show that all art is temporary and “finite (有限的)”.

Embarrassed officials at the museum said that they had had to call a meeting with cleaners to explain which things should not be touched. They would not say whether Mr Metzger would be paid any compensation for the incident. However, to make absolutely sure the same thing would not happen again, they decided to cover Mr Metzger's work every evening with a coloured cloth. In this way the cleaners arriving after the gallery had been closed to the general public would realize they should not touch it.

This is not the first time that museum cleaners have had trouble distinguishing exhibits from rubbish. In 2001, in another London gallery, a cleaner threw away a work by the wellknown British artist Damien Hirst. It was an arrangement of empty beer bottles, coffee cups, and overflowing ashtrays, which were meant to indicate the chaos in the life of an artist.

However, cleaners don't always throw things away sometimes they clean them!  This was the case with a dirty bath, which was on show in a gallery in Germany. Without asking what the bath was doing in the gallery, the cleaners simply scrubbed it clean.

1.The officials of the museum covered Mr Metzger's work so that ________.

A.the visitors couldn't get close in the evening

B.they could get recovered soon

C.the cleaners wouldn't make the same mistake

D.they would return to normal

2.Which of the following is NOT true?

A.People have different opinions on modern art.

B.Mr Metzger would be paid much compensation.

C.A work of Damien Hirst was thrown away by a cleaner in 2001.

D.Some modern work is about the chaos of an artist's life.

3.The last paragraph is written to show that________.

A.cleaners often make exhibits as clean as possible

B.cleaners can't always differ exhibits from rubbish

C.exhibits are usually difficult to clean

D.exhibits are not always so beautiful

4.What's the best title of the passage?

A.Cleaners mistake modern art for rubbish

B.Modern art shouldn't be cleaned

C.What makes a great work of art

D.Cleaners don't always throw things away

We all wish we had just a bit more time. Just think what you could do with an extra hour or two each day: you could finally stick to an exercise routine, or springclean the house, or write your novel, or learn the guitar and so on.

1. But I can help you find more hours in your day for the things that really matter.

Get Out of Bed Earlier

If you normally get up at 7:30 am, try getting up at 7:00 am. That halfhour might not sound like much, but it could be time that you use to exercise, to read that book you've been meaning to finish. 2.

Do the Important Tasks First

Once you get to work, get the important ones done first (not the easy ones, or even the urgent ones). You can afford to spend at least an hour working on big, important tasks rather than on all those little urgent ones.

3. The urgent tasks will still get done, and you won't miss the important ones.

Reduce Interruptions

If colleagues have a habit of hanging around your desk to chat, or if the phone is constantly ringing, you might find that it takes you half the day to finish a simple task like writing a letter. Constant interruptions don't just eat up time, they also break your concentration.

When you've got a big task to focus on, let your calls go to voicemail. 4._ Wearing headphones makes it less likely that people will try to strike up a conversation.

5.

A few minutes chatting, browsing the web, and so on, can easily turn into hours of wasted time over the course of a day.

When you're working, work. If your concentration is slipping, take a proper break, go and get a glass of water, or stretch your legs a bit. And if you're facing a difficult task, try breaking it into small steps or stages so that it's easier to deal with.

A.Stay Focused on Your Work.

B.Take Breaks When Necessary.

C.If you have an office door, close it.

D.If you work like this, you'll usually save time.

E.Would you want me to make your day longer?

F.I can't magically make all your days 25 hours long.

G.Or simply to get your day off to a calm and organized start.

Whether it is Mozart or Miley, your choice of music could determine whether you will perform well at your job. A new study suggests that listening to music in the office improves the speed and accuracy of tasks such as data entry, proofreading and problem solving. In an officebased experiment, 88 per cent of participants were found to produce their most accurate work when listening to music.

The study also found that 81 per cent completed their work fastest when music was played. And it matters what type of music you listen to. For instance, if you're doing your tax returns, then classical music is the most effective as it improves maths skills.

Listening to Jessie J or Justin Bieber could also improve your speed, with 58 per cent of participants completing data entry tasks faster while listening to pop songs. During proofreading, dance music, such as David Guetta, had the biggest positive impact with participants increasing their speed by 20 per cent compared to tests undertaken with no music at all. Dance music also had a positive effect on spellchecking with a 75 per cent pass rate compared to 68 per cent when no music was played at all.

The research, undertaken by Brightonbased Mindlab International, suggests that silent offices may be the least productive. The Music Works experiment revealed a positive correlation between music and productivity. Overall, it showed that when listening to music, nine out of ten people performed better, said Dr David Lewis, chairman of Mindlab International.

1.Whose music can help you do maths homework according to the study?

A.The music of Justin Bieber.

B.The music of Mozart.

C.The music of David Guetta.

D.The music of David Lewis.

2.Which of the following is NOT mentioned according to the passage?

A.Music makes you relaxed.

B.Music helps you to enter data faster.

C.Music improves maths skills.

D.Music has a positive effect on spellchecking.

3.The result of the experiment showed that when music was played, ________.

A.88% of people worked faster

B.81% of people did their most accurate work

C.90% of people worked better

D.75% of people completed data entry task faster

4.What can we conclude from the passage?

A.Music may be helpless to people in office.

B.Silent offices can make people work better.

C.Different kinds of music have the same effect.

D.Silent offices may make people work least profitably.
