I am writing to ask for whether you are able to do me a favor. I want to have a pen pal, hopefully a girl in the early twenties, and with interests similarly to mine. In my mind, he is someone interesting in traveling, swimming, and playing table tennis. Beside, it will be better for her to have a pet dog as I have been keeping one at home for some time. With such pen pal, I hope I can share with her my experiences in traveling, taking care of pets, or whichever we have in common. I believed I will improve my English by doing so and learning more about her country. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

1.把for去掉 2.the改为her 3.similarly改为similar 4.he改为she 5.interesting改为interested 6.Beside改为Besides 7.such后加a 8.whichever改为whatever 9.believed改为believe。 把for去掉 ask for意为“请求”。这里是“问询”之意,故去掉for 2.the改为her in one's twenties在某人二十几岁的时候 3.similarly改为similar similar to是后置定语修饰interests。 5.interesting改为interested be interested in对…… besides adv. 7.such后加a such a pen pal这样一个笔友。such a如此一个。

Getting your children to study can be a little like getting them to eat their vegetables.

1. Make a study time and have it at the same time every day. This will help your kids to learn to schedule their day and will give them a sense of control over how they spend their time.

Allow them to study in blocks of time, such as for half an hour with a fiveminute break in the middle.2. Ideal(理想的) study times are after dinner or right after school before dinner.

Never allow your children to study in front of the television,as that will encourage passive activity.3.

You'll also need to help your kids find the right place to study. After you've set up a good study time for little learners, set up a good place where they can get those creative juices flowing.

4. Make sure there is a table or a desk and a comfortable chair.

5. This includes helping them out with their homework sometimes and being there for them with the answers to any questions. The input you give your children during study periods will help form a bond and help make studying enjoyable.

Science can't explain the power of pets, but many studies have shown that the company of pets can help lower blood pressure (血压) and raise chances of recovering from a heart attack, reduce loneliness and spread all-round good cheer.

Any owner will tell you how much joy a pet brings. For some, an animal provides more comfort than a husband/wife. A 2002 study by Karen Allen of the State University of New York measured stress (紧张) levels and blood pressure in people - half of them pet owners –while they performed 5 minutes of mental arithmetic (算术) or held a hand in ice water. Subjects completed the tasks alone, with a husband/wife, a close friend or with a pet. People with pets did it best. Those tested with their animal friends had smaller change in blood pressure and returned most quickly to baseline heart rates. With pets in the room, people also made fewer math mistakes than when doing in front of other companions. It seems people feel more relaxed (放松)around pets, says Allen, who thinks it may be because pets don't judge.

A study reported last fall suggests that having a pet dog not only raises your spirits but may also have an effect on your eating habits. Researchers at Northwestern Memorial Hospital spent a year studying 36 fat people and their equally fat dogs on diet-and-exercise programs; a separate group of 56 people without pets were put on a diet program. On average, people lost about I1 pounds, or 5% of their body weight. Their dogs did even better, losing an average of 12 pounds, more than 15% of their body weight. Dog owners didn't lose any more weight than those without dogs but, say researchers, got more exercise overall-mostly with their dogs - and found it worth doing.

2.We learn from the text that a person with heart disease has a better chance of getting well if

A.he has a pet companion

B.he has less stress of work

C.he often does mental arithmetic

D.he is taken care of by his family

3.According to Allen, why did the people do better with pets around when facing stressful tasks?

A.They have lower blood pressure.

B.They become more patient.

C.They are less nervous.

D.They are in higher spirits.

4.The research mentioned in the last paragraph reports that

A.people with dogs did more exercise

B.dogs lost the same weight as people did
