My grandpa was used to dislike television. He thought that people spent too much time watching it. A lot of his friends, therefore, always talked about the sports programs and films on it. They never read many books or go out in the evenings so he refused to buy a TV set.

Last year he was 60 and retired his job. My father bought him a TV set, said “It will make you to learn some of the latest news”. It is quite true. He has watched all the news programs. He knows far much about the world now. And he reads more books, either. In fact, he thinks he may follow one of the Open University TV course next year. Perhaps he’ll get a degree when he is 65.

If you think you’ve gained too much weight or are too skinny, you can talk to a doctor. Your doctor will tell you _1.__.

If it is concerned about your height, weight, or BMI(体重指数)your doctor may ask questions__2.__. Your doctor may also ask about your family background to find out if you’ve received something from your parents that might make you taller, shorter, or a late bloomer(someone who develops later than other people of the same age). The doctor can then put all the information together to decide _3.__.

If your weight isn’t in a healthy range, you will probably get specific diet and exercise recommendations (推荐)based on our individual needs,. Following a doctor’s or dietitian’s plan designed especially for you will work much better than following fad(时尚) diets. For teens, fad diets or starvation plans can actually slow down growth, and the weight loss usually doesn’t last.

What _4._? Most teens who weigh less than other teens of their age are just fine. They may be going through puberty on a different schedule than kids of the same age, and their bodies may be growing and changing at a different rate. Most underweight teens catch up in weight as they finish puberty during their later teen years so there’s rarely a need to try to gain weight.

In a few cases, teenagers can be underweight because of a health problem that needs treatment. If you feel tired or ill a lot, or __5.__, or other problems that have lasted for more than a week or two, be sure to let your parents or your doctor know.

A.whether you might have a weight or growth problem

B.if you have symptoms (症状)like a cough, stomachache.

C.about your health, physical activity, and eating habits

D.if you’re worried about being too skinny

E.if you take care of it

Mr. Eckerd at the end of the street was a different fellow with a different kind of house. He let kids from the neighborhood come to see his house, but only if they had written permission from their parents, and if he’d already spoken to the parents before.

What made it so different? He shared his home with rescued animals that the county couldn’t keep. He had the permission to have things like monkeys, large cats, and other strange creatures. His house had the ivy(常春藤)-covered brick wall and the iron gate across the driveway. Once you went inside, the hedges(树藤)lining the driveway were carved into the shapes of animals. There were other pretty plants on the grounds, too.

The old brick house held a lot of surprises. The double doors with the lion’s head door knockers opened into a large flat entryway. In the wooden board walls all around, there were fish tanks with colorful fishes. The ceilings were painted with scenes of plants and rare animals. Room opened off from there. Continuing down the hall, you came to a large courtyard, which had been caged in, partly open to the sky .A large group of tiny monkeys shook up and down trees. You had to walk through a caged tunnel into other parts of the house. They called out to whoever walked in, hoping for treats of fruits, nuts, and seeds. Behind that, the hall continued to a room full of snakes and lizards. It felt like a desert in that room, so dry and hot. It was not everyone’s favorite room, but it certainly was interesting. The final room was actually out back, and definitely not something to miss. It was much like a large glass bird cage or a greenhouse. It was there that you would usually find Mr Eckerd on a bench next to some carvings of jungle animals. He was watching the Bengal tiger that wandered back and forth inside the cage.

Mr. Eckerd’s house was the strangest and most unique place in town, a place very well worth seeing.
