It seems that there are a larger number of beggar in the streets than there used

to be. I don’t know how we should help them or not. Once I give some money to a beggar

who looked poor. However, a few minutes later, I saw him bought some cigarettes. It

really shocked  at me. In my opinion, anyone who work hard can make a living. I’m

afraid that giving them money isn’t best way to help them. Maybe the government can

take some action to helping them. Anyway, if they want to live a better living, they should

learn to depend on ourselves.

1.beggar →beggars 2.how →whether 3.give →gave 4.bought →buying或buy 5.去掉at 6.work →works 7.best前面加the 8.helping →help 9.living →life 10.ourselves-themselves 【解析】 试题分析: 1.】beggar →beggars 形容词短语a number of许多,大量;该词通常修饰可数名词复数形式,所以后面使用beggers。 2.】how →whether 固定搭配whether…or not是否;句意:我不主动是否可以帮助他们。 3.give →gave 本句叙述的是过去发生的事情“我曾经给过乞丐钱”,所以使用一般过去时的时态。 4.bought →buying或buy 本句中应该使用buy或者buying作为宾语补足语,构成see sb do sth看见某人做了某事,或者see sb doing sth看见某人正在做某事。 9.】living →life 固定搭配live a life可以在life前面加形容词修饰,表示“过着……的生活”; 10.ourselves-themselves另外本句的主语是they,所以后面应该使用themselves作为depend on的宾语。 考点:短文改错

So many times I hear people say that they will be happy once a certain event occurs. They think that once they move into a new house, start their new job, travel or retire they will be happy. But it doesn’t work that way. If you truly want to be happy, here’s what to do.

1.

You are not just a victim of circumstances or your emotions. Think about it this way. If you are in a horrible argument with someone, and the person you most respect enters the room, what will happen? The fighting will likely stop immediately, your mood will change, and so will your behavior. You do have control, and you are the one who decides how you will face the day!

2.

We are never disappointed unless we have expectations. If you base your emotions on the need for certain things to happen, you will likely be let down most of the time. Instead, work hard, and treat everything good that happens as a bonus for which you can be thankful.

3.

Don’t get too wrapped up in issues involving friends or family. We are each responsible for our own lives, and when someone makes a bad mistake, it is not up to you to make things better. And remember that worry doesn’t help anyone!

4.

You might not be satisfied with your income, but there is no point complaining about it. Improve your diploma so that you can get a better job in the future. You may have an incurable illness, such as diabetes, but the fact that it’s incurable doesn’t mean that it cannot be managed.

5.

You don’t have to be a Pollyanna (盲目乐观者) about life, but you can see the bright side of almost every situation if you just make a point of looking for it. Happiness is not an uncatchable mouse! Once you have made up your mind that you are going to be happy despite what is going on around you, the task becomes easier. One of the key things to remember is that happiness doesn’t come from outside but begins on the inside and actually spreads outward, and can influence everyone around you in a positive manner.

You will spend hours at the gym training your body, but do you ever think about training your brain? Here are four ways to keep your brain mentally (脑力上地) active and healthy.

Play games

Your brain is a muscle just like the ones in the rest of your body. If you don’t use it, you will lose it. For example, doing a crossword puzzle (纵横填字游戏) once a day is a good way to give the brain the exercise it needs. This kind of puzzle is good at training different areas of the brain. But remember that when doing this puzzle, you should gradually increase the complexity (复杂度); otherwise, it will become repetitive (重复乏味的) and stop being mentally challenging.

Talk aloud

Although it might sound strange to you, talking aloud is a great way to boost your memory. A good exercise to try is counting to 99 in threes as fast as you can.

Be a team leader

If you find you can do your work very easily, you should find a new task. It is important that your job should be mentally challenging. Complex jobs are often more challenging and make the brain work a little harder.

Learn a language

A study found that, compared with those who could speak only one language, the people who could speak two languages had a slower rate of cognitive (认知能力) decrease. Learning a new language is very challenging and it makes sure that different areas of the brain have their lights on.

1.What is the main idea of this passage?

A. Why you should train your brain.

B. How to be a good team leader.

C. Training the brain is more important than training the body.

D. How to make your brain healthy and work actively.

2.Which word can replace the word "boost" in the third paragraph?

A. Change.      B. Promote.

C. Decrease.     D. Lose.

3.We should gradually increase the complexity when doing crossword puzzles because ______.

A. if we don’t use our brain, we will lose it

B. we should make our brain face different challenges

C. our brain is a muscle like other parts in our bodies

D. these puzzles can work on different areas of the brain.

UFO stands for "unidentified flying object"(不明飞行物). Many people reported having seen UFOs in the sky. A lot of countries tried to research them and in 1952 they got the name of UFO.

There were several reports published in the 19th century which were related (相关的) to UFOs. Denison Daily News in its report of 25th January, 1878 wrote that a farmer, Martin, saw a flying object in the sky and it was just like a plate. This was the first time that the word plate had been related to the UFOs.

The first reports on UFOs came during World War II. In 1947 pilot Kenneth Arnold said while he was flying near the Mount Rainer he saw a very bright object in the sky. He said that it was like a plate too. The information given by Kenneth got lots of attention from the media and people.

Several research organizations gave their reports on the UFOs. They showed direct or indirect physical evidence of the UFOs, and sometimes UFOs’appearance was found on the radar (雷达) screen. Many people tried to take video tapes or photos of the UFOs as proof. Most UFOs are in saucer shape while many UFOs are like a cigarette or a half ball.

Many films and TV shows are made about UFOs. There are two famous movies which are created on the theme of UFOs and aliens, War of the Worldand Star Wars. UFOs have created a new field in science which is known as Ufology (飞碟学).
