The sight of a tailor-shop gave me a strong wish to throw off my old clothes and get a new suit. Could I afford it? No, I had nothing in the world but a million-pound note. Research proves that nearly half of the cancers diagnosed(诊断) in the UK each year—over 130,000 in total— are caused by life choices that include smoking, drinking and eating the wrong things.
Tobacco(烟草) is the biggest factor, causing 23% for cases in men and 15.6% in women, says the Cancer Research UK report. Next comes a lack of fresh fruit and vegetables in men’s diets, while for women it is being overweight. Think Green. Challenge yourself to think about the environment as you live your life. If you shut off lights when you leave the room, turn off your TV when you’re not watching it, you’ll save energy. If you take shorter showers, you’ll save water.
