I'll always remember the day I went to my first dance class. My mother was an excellent ballet(芭蕾)dancer and I wanted nothing more than to follow her.
After class, my mom asked how I liked it. I thought of what had happened in the class: when I stood side by side with those experienced and confident girls, all my clumsy(笨拙的)movements made me want to cry. However, I still told my mom I couldn't wait to dance again.
Weeks passed and one day my dance teacher announced we were going to have a performance soon. Though I practiced as much as I could, I still saw no improvement in my ballet ability. I went to my mom and told her that dancing wasn't for me. My mom told me that she would show me all she knew about ballet. She quickly discovered how bad my dancing was, but she still taught me with the greatest patience.
By the time the performance arrived, I had been as prepared as I could be. My mom sat in the audience(观众),with worries in her eyes. I positioned myself and began moving to the music without missing a step. When the music stopped, a storm of applause broke out. I cried and I knew all my hard work had paid off.
After the performance, my mom hugged me and told me how proud she was. I looked her in the eye and told her there was no way this could have happened without her. I knew she would always be there to keep me going.

I stood up and walked between the tables. When I came to the biggest computer, I saw a thin, small man sitting in front of it. "I am Steve," he finally answered after I asked him a couple of times what his name was. "I can't talk with you. I'm busy," he said He was chatting online and, at the same time playing a computer game: a war game. I was surprised.
Why didn't Steve want to talk with me? I tried again to speak to that computer geek, but not a word came out of his mouth. I touched his shoulder, but no reaction I was unhappy. I put my hand in front of the monitor and he shouted, "Leave me alone." I took a few steps back, wondering if all those people were having a nice conversation with their machines, not with people, especially Steve.I wouldn't want to imagine the future of human beings if they preferred sharing their lives with machines instead of with people. Trees are one of the oldest "citizens(公民)" of our Earth. They keep our air clean, reduce noise pollution, improve water quality and provide food and building materials.
Just like us, trees change a lot as they grow. At 1 to 3 years old, young trees learn how to protect themselves. For example, many trees grow thorns(刺)to warn animals not to go near. Most young trees have large, deep green leaves so that they can catch enough sunlight and change it into their food and energy.
When trees are 4 years old, they begin to grow very rapidly and become strong enough to face challenges later in life. At the age of 15, trees become young adults. They grow more slowly and begin to produce flowers and fruit.
It is not until the tree is 20 to 25 years old that it becomes a real adult. The tree reaches its largest size. The adult tree gives us shade, oxygen and natural beauty; it is also a great place for a tree house, or a place for us to read a book, listen to music and so on. If we give the adult tree proper care, it will go on to live healthily for many years.
Gradually, trees begin to grow older and older and even die. At this time, they still have their important place in nature. When a tree becomes hollow(空心的)or part of it becomes dead, it provides a home to small animals and is a source of food for many other animals.
In many ways, the life of a tree is similar to our own life experience. When we are looking at the life of a tree, we learn about that each period of life brings its own form of joy and challenge. Enjoy every minute of the life of the trees and take care of the trees!

Hello, I'm Zheng Yishi from Shanghai. I'm 15 years old. I study at Walsh Jesuit High School in Cleveland, Ohio, US. I Like reading, traveling and listening to music. I'm glad to share my experience with you.
Have you ever wondered what PE classes are like in other countries? In China, PE tests are required to graduate from both middle school and high school. To get good grades on the PE tests, Chinese students will need to practice running as well as doing sit-ups and pull-ups. However, this is not the way that PE classes work in US high schools.
In my high school, we are required to take two terms of PE to graduate. We play real sports during PE classes, such as basketball and volleyball. There are also some other typical American sports that we often play, such as kickball and dodgeball(躲避球).
I didn't know the rules of kickball and dodgeball when I first came to the US. The teacher allowed me to sit on the sidelines and watch how other students played it in order to let me find out the rules.
We also learn some useful life skills in PE. Last year, I learned how to do CPR(心肺复苏), which is a life-saving skill. We were also taught how to provide first aid to someone who is choking(窒息).These skills are a large part of the final grade for the PE class in my high school. Self-defense(自卫)is taught in PE class as well. This includes some tae kwon do(跆拳道)and karate(空手道) skills, as well as Chinese kung fu. It is practical. I prefer PE classes in the US to the ones in China. I think they are more fun and useful. What do you think?

A.a teacher's instruction B.watching others play
C.playing the sport herself D.watching online videos
2.Which of these things did the writer NOT learn about in PE classes at Welsh Jesuit High School?
A.How to play sports. B.Life–saving skills.
C.Self-defense skills. D.How to treat burns.
3.The story is written to .
A.introduce the writer's favorite sports
B.explain what US PE classes are like
C.show why US students don't like PE classes
D.suggest that China should change its PE classes
