People in Britain celebrate Halloween on October 31st. This isn't a holiday though. 1.Orange is related (有关于) to harvests because the end of October is the end of the harvest. Black is related to death. Pumpkin lanterns are everywhere on Halloween. People take the inside part out of pumpkins and cut eyes, mouth and a nose on one side. 2.The candlelight (烛光) creates a scary face effect. In the past people used potatoes to make lanterns, but today people use pumpkins. They are easier to cut and people can buy them in supermarkets. People use pumpkin lanterns to decorate (装饰) their homes. People of different age usually dress up on Halloween. Young children usually go trick or treat with parents or an older brother or sister. Children dress up and then visit the houses in their neighborhood asking for a "trick or treat". 3.If there is no treat, the children play a trick on the neighbor. They can play different tricks on the neighbor. 4.People think that playing tricks is unkind but luckily there is nearly always a treat. The police in some parts of Britain give out "No trick or treat, please!" posters ( 海 报 ). People can put the posters on their door if they don't want to join in.

One day, some children were at play in their playground. Someone said loudly, "The King would come to the town!" The children stopped their play and said, "The King is coming. He may look over the wall and see our playground. We must clean it up!"
The playground was sadly dirty, and there were waste paper and broken toys in the corner. But now, all the children started to clean it up. They worked hard until all was clean and tidy. They still wanted to make the playground look fine because the King liked the fine things. When they finished their work, the playground was so beautiful that the children stood and looked at it, and clapped their hands with pleasure. "Let us keep it always like this!" said the youngest one; and the others cried, "Yes! Yes!"
They waited all day for the coming of the King, but he never came; until it was sunset (日落) time, a man with dirty clothes, and a kind, tired face passed along the road, and stopped to look over the wall. The sun shone on his hair. It looked like a crown of gold.
"What a nice place!" said the man. "May I come in and rest ( 休 息 ), dear children?" The children brought him in gladly and set him on the seat. They made like a throne (宝座). "It is our playground!" They said, "We made it pretty for the King, but he did not come, and now we mean to keep it so for ourselves. Because we think pretty and clean is nicer than ugly ( 丑陋的) and dirty! You're searching the Internet and find a website with interesting articles. Some are news stories. They are for sharing information. Others only look like news stories. They're actually advertisements ( 广 告 ). They are there to get you to buy something. How do you tell the difference between a news story and an advertisement?
My research team showed teenagers the home page of a popular digital magazine (电子杂志 ). We asked them to show us a news story and an advertisement. Most were great at finding advertisements. So where did kids find it more difficult?
Some advertisements seem to be very similar to real news stories. They have headlines. But they may also have the words sponsored information. Sponsored means "paid for", and the information is the story. "Sponsored information" is a way of saying that something is an advertisement. It means someone paid money for it to be there. Most kids in our study, even if they used the Internet often, didn't know this.
As a reader, you need to look carefully. Sometimes, the advertisements are in very small letters. The Internet is a big sea of information. To use it well, we not only have to know how to swim but also how to avoid the sharks. Learning to tell the difference between an advertisement and a news story is important to be Internet smart.
