China’s film industry (产业) started when New China was born. It started in 1949 with a movie called Bridge. After that, Chinese movie industry experienced ups and downs. I was in one of the 36 formations (方阵). We were wearing yellow T-shirts, holding flowers and flags in our hands. I shouted loudly “Long live our motherland”. It may not seem hard to walk in a formation. But we started training (训练) as early as July. We had four group training sessions in Changping, Beijing. We learned to walk at a certain pace-walking 116 meters every 90 seconds.
On October 1, we waited at Dongdan at 2 a.m. But I didn’t feel sleepy that day. Instead, I was full of joy and pride. I’ll never forget seeing the aircraft flying above my head and making the shape of a “70”!

Millions of Chinese basketball fans were sad on Sept. 8, 2019. China lost an important World Cup game against Nigeria on that day. With the loss (失败), China was out of the 2019 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World Cup. It may also lose a chance to join next year’s Tokyo Olympic Games.
The loss was even sadder for fans of 31-year-old player Yi Jianlian. This maybe the last World Cup for the four-time Olympian and former NBA player.
Yi is the leader of the Chinese men’s national basketball team. He had big goals for his team before the international basketball competition started. “Eleven years ago we hosted (主办) the Beijing Olympics, and now we are hosting the FIBA World Cup,” he told China Daily, “It’s a chance for all of us. You can feel the special duty when you see the national flag. It’s very important for the national team to play in the World Cup in front of a home crowd.”
With his country in mind, Yi was injured (受伤) in the game but still carried the team on his shoulders. He did everything he could against Nigeria and got 27 points all on his own during the game.
But before the game ended, Yi’s ball was stopped and the team’s loss was certain. He hit the ground and shouted with anger. Later, he said it was hard to accept the loss. “We can’t give up because of the loss tonight. We still need to work harder in the future.” Yi said.
It’s still up in the air whether Yi will be able to play in a fifth Olympic next year. Either way, he is surely one of the greatest basketball players in China.
