A proverb is a short, well-known saying ...

A proverb is a short, well-known saying that expresses a common truth or belief. Proverbs are found in most cultures and are often very old. The phrase, "The early bird catches the worm, "may be true. It means people who wake up early get more done than people who don’t. 1.. He said," Early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise."

Scientists have found that people who go to bed before 11 p.m. may do better in life than people who sleep around 2:30 a.m., which is also believed by a group of researchers. 2.. Their research showed that people who slept and got up early(early birds)had an average (平均) sleep over people who slept and woke up late at night (owls). There were differences in the brain function (功能) of early birds and night owls.

The scientists tested 38 people in their research. These persons answered questions about their sleeping habits and when they felt tired during the day. 3.. One is called early bird, the other is night owl depending on their answers.

All of the people had tests on their brains and did different tests throughout the day. The early birds said they felt less sleepy and were able to do the test more quickly than the night owls. 4.. They said, night owls go to sleep late, but during school time, they have to get up earlier, and they easily get tired in class. They always have to fight against their bad habits and natural rhythms (节奏).”

A. The researchers said there were big differences between the two groups.

B. Benjamin Franklin has many famous sayings.

C. The researchers are from Birmingham’s Centre for Human Brain Health in the UK.

D. Another saying is from earlier US President Benjamin Franklin.

E. They were then put into two groups.

Music is something that every person has his or her own opinion about. Different people have different tastes, and various types of music have many ways of leaving an effect on someone. It can be relaxing, angering, soothing (抚慰的), energizing, and many more.

There are so many types of music out there today. Rap, pop, rock, country, indie, alternative, hardcore are some of the abundant (丰富的) types in the world. Music sends out either good or bad messages that have big impacts on how people act. People usually become friends with others who have the same taste in music as the rest of the people they hang out with. People may not want to associate with people who have different tastes in music because they’ll argue about what they think is better, but they are just their own opinions.

Rap and Rock music are two very important types of music in the world. They both send out different messages and help kids. The lyrics sung or rapped by the artists can be things going on in their own personal lives, and people with the same types of problems can listen to them so they know their hopes and people like this out there in the world. Music can also serve as a catalyst (催化剂) for new ideas. When people listen to the new things out there, they learn different things going on in the world and they become more open-minded.

People can use music to express themselves, in ways it can’t be expressed through behavior, or art. You can usually tell how someone’s feeling by the type of music he or she is listening to at the time. It’s a tool used by many. The Unexplained Mystery of Pyramid

The Pyramids in Egypt are really something special. We still don’t really know how the Egyptians built the largest pyramid at all, known as the Great Pyramid of Cheops (or Khufu), some 5,000 years ago. Remember, this was even before the invention of the wheel.

The most famous pyramids are the Egyptian pyramids — huge structures built of brick or stone, some of which are among the world’s largest constructions. The age of the pyramids reached its top at Giza in 2575-2150 B.C. In 2008, some 138 pyramids have been discovered in Egypt. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the largest in Egypt and one of the largest in the world. Until Lincoln Cathedral in England was finished in AD 1311, it was the tallest building in the world. The base is over 52,600 square meters in area. While pyramids are associated(关联的) with Egypt, the nation of Sudan has 220 extant pyramids, the most numerous in the world.

In the 1940s, a radio engineer named Karel Drbal claimed(声称) that small pyramids of a 1:1,000 scale as the Great Pyramid could sharpen knives. His explanation was that the pyramid shape focuses energy when precisely aligned (精确对齐) on the north-south axis (), which can renew steel.

Though the claims of Drbal and others, there is no scientific evidence that Pyramids have power. It is a cut and dry myth, probably driven by the nature of pyramids and their ancient, unexplained mysteries.

As the neurologist (神经学家) Terence Hines wrote: “People became quite crazy about Pyramid Power in the world of pseudoscience for a time in the mid-1970s. Actually, the idea was that the pyramidal shape itself was magical and filled with a mysterious energy and power.”

1.When did the pyramids develop the best?

A.in 2575-2150 B.C B.In 2008 C.in AD 1311

2.Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the passage?

A.The Great Pyramid of Giza is the tallest building in the world before AD 1311.

B.Sudan has the more extant pyramids than any other country in the world.

C.Lincoln Cathedral was built earlier than The Great Pyramid of Giza.

3.What does the underline word evidence mean in the passage?

A.方法 B.证据 C.痕迹

4.According to Karel Drbal __________.

A.the small pyramids of a 1:1,000 scale as the Great Pyramid are very sharp. ‘

B.the small pyramids of a 1:1,000 scale as the Great Pyramid can renew steel.

C.the Great Pyramid of a 1:1,000 scale as the small Pyramid could sharpen knives.

5.__________ can be inferred (推断) from the passage.

A.Pyramids have magic

B.Pyramids are mysteries

C.Pyramids belong to Egypt
