When I was a child, I always felt very ...

When I was a child, I always felt very free outdoors. I liked to imagine that nature was speaking to me through the call of the birds and the rustling of the leaves. The sound of the wind whistling through the banyan trees was like a friend sharing secrets. The clouds pulled themselves into the shapes of rabbits or horses just for me. At night, as I tried not to fall asleep, the soft tap, tap, tap of the rain on my window seemed to be saying, ‘Remember to come out again tomorrow.’ Still I often failed to enjoy these gifts.

Since those enjoyable years, I have seen the serious damage humans have done to the Earth’s natural resources ( 自然资源). The Earth is in danger. Now it is up to us to make a change and begin taking care of it. I believe that every person can make a difference. You may be the one person our world needs right now. Do not worry about going it alone because as you begin, you will soon find that there are many others alongside you. They are stopping to pick up rubbish (垃圾) along the streets. They are putting bottles and tins (罐子) into recycle trash bins (回收垃圾箱). Perhaps, like me, they are writing about the small wonders of our world so that others may learn to enjoy the Earth’s beauty more.

One sunny afternoon, I found a small purple flower on the ground and I thought how lifeless it looked, all alone in the dirt. Then I moved up my head and saw that the field ( 田 野 ) beside the road was covered with purple flowers, just like the one in my hand. Alone they were tiny (微小的), but together they became a big filed of color that made me breathless (令人屏息的). That little purple flower gave me courage ( 勇 气 ). I told myself that working together, we can make our world better. You and I.
