One day, Mr. Phillips wanted to buy 1kg ...

One day, Mr. Phillips wanted to buy 1kg of bananas. When he was walking on the street, he saw an ill-looking old lady across the road, who was selling fresh bananas. Mr. Phillips usually bought bananas from a supermarket nearby. But since he was in a hurry to reach home that day, he thought about buying them from the old lady.

When he went to the old lady and asked her the price, she said it was $7 per kg. “But the supermarket where I usually buy gives them for $5 per kg,” said Mr Phillips. “Can you give me for the same price?” The old lady said, “No, Sir. I can sell them to you at $6 per kg.” Mr. Phillips went to the usual supermarket.

In the supermarket, he picked up some good bananas. When he was preparing to pay for them, he was surprised to find that the price was S10 per kg and the manager said that they didn’t bargain. Mr. Phillips thought for a second and put those bananas back. He went back to the old lady. She recognized him immediately and told him, “Sir, I can’t match that price.”

Mr. Phillips told her, “Don’t worry, and I will pay you $10 per kg! Now, give me 2 kg.” The old lady got very happy, and she packed 2kg of bananas and said, “I can’t take $10 per kg but I will take $7 per kg. I am thankful for your kindness.”

Hearing that, Mr. Phillips said, “You are doing good and from tomorrow on, I will only buy bananas from you.”

由文中第一段“...he saw an ill-looking old lady across the road, who was selling fresh bananas”,可知,老人在卖香蕉,B项为正确答案。故选B。 2. 由文中第一段“But since he was in a hurry to reach home that day, he thought about buying them from the old lady”,可知,Phillips着急回家,所以他想买老人的香蕉。故选C。 3. 根据第二段“…she said it was $7 per kg”及“I can sell them to you at $6 per kg”,可知这个老太太的香蕉卖$7 per kg,但可以给 Mr. Phillips 更低的价格$6 per kg。 由文中“…he was surprised to find that the price was $10 per kg and the manager said that they didn’t bargain”可知,超市里香蕉的价格是$10 per kg,且不讲价。由文中“I can’t take $10 per kg but I will take $7 per kg”可知,最后老太太卖给 Mr. Phillips 的价格是$7 per kg。 Phillips说的话“You are doing good and from tomorrow on, I will only buy bananas from you.”,可知 A 项“一个善良、诚实的老人”为最佳标题。故选A。
