Some people believe that greed(贪婪) and selfishness has become the main theme of modern society, and we should return to the old traditions of family and community in order to have a better life.
In this fast –paced(快节奏的) world, many values are experiencing great changes. While people traditionally caring, sharing and generosity the most important things in life and work, modern people seem to be more self-centered.
Modern people act selfishly to survive the highly competitive world. To survive, you have to fight with whatever ways you can think of. Obviously greed and selfishness go perfectly well with such ideas. In a company, workers do everything they can to get better pay and higher position, even if it means their workmates will lose a lot because of this. They are not born cold-blooded; it is just that people are pressured to act in a certain way because of outside influences.
To be honest, it is hard to say that modern society is built on greed and selfishness, both of which are not newly invented vocabulary. In ancient times people also did greedy and selfish things though such behaviors were more seriously punished then. But we can’t be blind to the fact that people in the past faced less pressure compared with the modern environment.

Many people believe the glare(炫目的光) from snow causes snow-blindness. Yet, with dark glasses or not, they may have headaches and watering eyes, and even snow-blindness after several hours of snow light.
The United States army has now found out that glare from snow does not cause snow-blindness in army in a snow-covered country. Rather, a man’s eyes often find nothing to focus on(聚集) in a broad space of snow-covered area. So his long fixed look continually moves and jumps backward and forward over the whole landscape in search of something to look at. Finding something, hour after hour, the eyes never stop searching and the eyeballs become tired and the eye muscles(肌肉) ache. As tears continued increasing, they make eyes difficult to see clearly, and the result is total, even though for a short time, snow-blindness.
Experiments led the Army to a simple method of overcoming(克服) this problem. Scouts(侦察兵) ahead of the army are trained to shake snow from evergreen bushes, creating a line as they cross completely snow-covered landscape. Even the scouts themselves throw lightweight, dark-colored objects ahead on which they can focus too. The men flowing can then see something. It seems food deliverymen(送货员) are always in a hurry. They wear blue, red or yellow helmets and many of them don’t follow traffic rules. They drive on the wrong side of the road and run red lights. They use mobile phones while driving. These reckless behaviors have caught the public’s attention.
In the first half of 2017, food deliverymen had 76 traffic accidents in Shanghai, according to Shanghai Public Security Bureau. That means every two and a half days, a food deliveryman will die or get hurt on the road.
What makes deliveryman take such risks? The strict rules of the food delivery service companies and the impatient customers may be the answer.
