Aamir Khan(阿米尔·汗) is an Indian film actor, director and TV talk show host. Through his 30-year career in Indian films, Khan has made himself one of the most popular stars in India.
Khan first appeared on screen as a child actor in his uncle’s film at the age of 8. In 1998, he began his full-time acting career with the leading role in a romantic film. He acted so well in that film that he won the National Film Award. Since then, he has been playing leading roles in different kinds of films.
Aamir Khan is no doubt one of the most hard-working actors in this world. He went through great changes in his appearance for his films, in order to make the characters that he played look more believable. For example, when acting in the film Dangal (《摔跤吧！爸爸》) in 2016, he first put on weight to 97kg to play the middle-aged old Dad, and then reduced the weight to 70kg in five months for the young Dad. That may be one of the main reasons why his films and he are loved by fans all over the world .
In 2007, Khan became a director with the film titled Taare Zameen Par, which was a huge box office success that year.
Within and beyond the film industry, Khan is a great humanitarian. He has created and hosted the TV talk show named Satyamev Jayate, through which he talks about different kinds of problems in India. The show sometimes can even influence the Indian government. His work has won him an appearance on the Time 100 list of most influential people in the world.

Sometimes people come into your life and you know at once that they are sure to be there. They serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help find out who you are or who you want to become. English book Animal Farm (1945) tells a story about farm animals. They are fed up with (受够了) Mr Jones, the farmer. He treats them badly, so they decide to kick him off the farm and run the farm themselves.
One day an old pig called Old Major gathers the animals around him. He tells them that all animals should stand together. He says they should take over the farm. They say that all animals are equal.
After they get rid of (摆脱) Mr Jones, two pigs become the leaders of Animal Farm. One pig called Snowball is a great speaker. He has big ideas for Animal Farm. The other leader is a pig called Napoleon. Napoleon is a crafty (狡猾的) animal. He brings together supporters by offering them advantages.
Napoleon makes a war against Snowball and kicks him away from the farm. He turns Snowball into a big enemy. He says that Snowball is working with Farmer Jones and other farmers to do harm to Animal Farm.
But as it turns out it is Napoleon who is working with the enemies of the animals. He joins up with the old human enemies of the animals. But he tells the animals that he is working for them. At the same time the animals work hard. It seems that it is as bad to live under Napoleon as it was under Farmer Jones!
Why is the story so important?
Animal Farm is an excellent choice for learners of English because it’s very short. The language is also simple.
Like many famous stories Animal Farm is not just a book. It was played on the BBC radio in 1947. The big modern way of telling stories is in movies of course. Orwell’s book has become a film twice. Perhaps it won’t surprise you that the first one (1954) was a cartoon. In 1984 another film was made. This was a live-action (真人版的) film. The famous book has also been put on in the theater. In 1984 a play was made and it toured a number of British cities.

Imagine having an ear made out of an apple. It seems like a crazy idea from a horror movie. But it could happen in the near future.
Canadian biophysicist Andrew Pelling used an apple to grow a human ear. He thinks fruit and vegetables can be used to cheaply repair human body parts in the future.
Scientists have been trying to grow organs(器官) in labs to replace our old ones. But it is a hard job. For example, liver cells(肝细胞) can grow in a lab, but the cells still need things like blood vessels(血管)to actually work. These things have to grow inside a scaffold (支架).
In the past, scientists have used man-made materials, animal parts and even dead people as scaffolds. But that has proved to be difficult and expensive.
Pelling and his team, however, found the apple to be a cheap and easy-to-use scaffold.
They first cut an apple into the shape of an ear. Then they used a special way to take out the apple's cells and make it a scaffold. The team then added human cells to the apple, and watched it grow.
“You can implant these scaffolds into the body, and the body will send in cells and a blood supply and actually keep these things alive.” Pelling said during a Ted Talk speech.
The team put the apple scaffold inside a living mouse and the mouse's cells slowly took over the pieces of apple.
Now Pelling is thinking of other fruit, plants or vegetables to use.
He says that the lower petals could be perfect for repairing skin. And asparagus(芦笋) could fix a broken spine(脊柱).
Now, Pelling and his team are trying hard to put these crazy ideas into reality.
