I am a helpless (无助的) mother. I have a fourteen-year-old son. His name is Paul.

My first problem is about his hobbies. He spends almost all his free time playing computer games. When he gets home, he always turns on the computer and closes the door. I’m getting worried about him, especially when his English teacher tells me he always gets low marks (分数) in the English exams.

Second, he likes collecting model cars, but I don’t have enough money to buy all the things that he wants.

My last problem is that he is always alone. He hardly talks with his friends on the phone or goes out with anyone on weekends.

What should I do to help him? Please give me some advice.

1.What’s the purpose (意图) of this passage?

2.How many problems does the mother have?

3.What does Paul usually do in his free time?

4.What advice will you give to the mother and why?

1.To ask for some advice. 2.Three. 3.He usually plays computer games. 4.Different answers can be accepted as long as reasonable. 1.根据文章的最后 “What should I do to help him? Please give me some advice.” To ask for some advice. 2.根据短文第二段 “My first problem is about his hobbies.”、第三段 “Second, he likes collecting model cars, but…”和第四段 “My last problem is that he is always alone.” 3.根据短文第二段 “He spends almost all his free time playing computer games.” 故答案为He usually plays computer games. 4. I think she should have a talk with her son. It can help her know about her son better.
