We often find that weekends and holidays feel so short while classes and work feel so long. Actually, though, we know that this is not true. But we still wonder where that strange feeling comes from. In fact, this is one of the ways that we’re tricked by time, according to the website All That Is Interesting. The website lists several wrong impressions we often have about time. Let's have a look. First of all, emotions affect our time-keeping abilities: Negative emotions, especially anxiety and boredom, make time seem longer because they make us concentrate more on the passage of time. However, when we are enjoying ourselves, we pay more attention to what we are doing and are likely to lose track of (失去对...的意识) time.
Here is another example. In 2007, a group of scientists carried out a test. In the test, people fell 50 meters into a safety net and were then asked about their experience. Although the experience took shorter than 3 seconds, the people thought it was much longer than it actually was.
This is because of the way our bodies reply to danger, according to the scientists. Our bodies produce a chemical called adrenaline (肾上腺素) when we are faced with danger. It allows us to concentrate better so that we can stay alive. As a result, we are able to remember far more details (细节) over a short period of time, which makes it seem like time is going more slowly.
Another situation when we make mistakes about time is when we take afternoon naps(午觉). Have you ever had trouble telling what time it is after a long nap? That's because the best amount of time for a nap is 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, you enter a new stage of sleep called slow-wave sleep. If you wake up mid-way in this stage, it will take a while before you can correctly perceive(感知)time again. Yes, time can be mysterious and there is no way to control it. So, perhaps the best thing to do is to make good use of every minute.

D.We go to school on the school bus as usual on weekdays.

Since 2017, short videos have gotten millions of views (关注) online. Many people create and share short videos on popular video apps like Douyin and Kuaishou. You can even add music and special effects (特效) to your videos. The videos are 15 seconds to a few minutes long. They show people doing activities like cooking, exercising and singing.
Teenagers especially enjoy these videos. More than 50 percent of Grade 7 and 8 students said they enjoy watching these short videos. About 47 percent of them have posted their own videos, according to a recent report by the China National Youth Palace Association.
The videos let teenagers see funny and exciting things they wouldn’t usually see. Many teens like to share the fun things they do with others as well. For example, a 12-year-old user named Xiao Qianyu has posted videos showing her learning jazz dance. This has won her many fans.
However the videos can also cause trouble. Some students spend too much time watching them and not enough time studying. Some videos are vulgar and not suitable for teenagers.

One day during our holiday in England, my friend and I went to the train station to buy tickets to London. As native (本土的) speakers of English, we did not expect to have problems in English.
“Two tickets to London, please.” I said to the ticket seller
“Single?” the ticket seller asked me.
I thought that she couldn’t hear me clearly, “Two tickets to London!” I shouted.
At that moment a man helped us. He said that “a single ticket” in Britain doesn’t mean “one ticket”, it means “a one-way ticket”.
My experience in England taught me that there are some differences between British and American English. An Englishman may ask, “Would you like white coffee or white tea?” And an American asks, “Would you like your coffee or tea with milk?” We can find some differences such as the British saying “He’s in hospital”, but the American saying “He’s in the hospital”. Americans write words like color without the “u” of the English colour.
How much do you know about the differences between British and American English?
1.The writer spent his holiday in_________.
A.America B.England C.China D.Canada
2.The writer thought the ticket seller was_________.
A.a good listener B.a careful listener C.a blind person D.bad at hearing

A.only one ticket
B.a one-way ticket
C.a ticket for two
D.a ticket for one
4.The writer learned in England that there are_________differences between British and American English.

5.In Britain, if you want your coffee with milk, you should say, “I'd like_________.”
A.some milk B.black coffee C.white milk D.white coffee
