A young man lost his job and became poor. Finally, he had run out of money and had to spend the night in his car. After several days of sleeping in his car, he walked nervously into a restaurant and ordered a big breakfast. After finishing it, he told the owner that he had lost his wallet. The owner walked behind the young man’s seat and picked up 20 dollars on the floor.
“Sir, you must have dropped this,” the owner said.
The young man couldn't believe his luck! He quickly paid for the breakfast and left.
On the way out of town, he began thinking this,“Maybe nobody dropped the money at all. That’s because the owner knew I was in trouble and he helped me.” From then on, the young man promised himself that he would try to help others if he was able to one day.
Now the young man lives near Kansas City. Each year, he donates(捐款)thousands of dollars. He is known as the“Secret Santa”,because at Christmas time each year, he gives money to homeless people on streets. Last year, he gave more than 50000 dollars away in Kansas City and New York City.
“I am very happy that I can help those people because they really need our help. I will continue giving my help to them. I once received help from others, too. So I understand the meaning when you help others.” he said.

Wherever travelers go, cameras are sure to follow. It’s great fun to take photos, and even more fun to show slides of the trip to friends and relatives when they come back home.
There’s Aunt Sarah, smiling in front of Buckingham Palace; Aunt Sarah, smiling under the Eiffel Tower; and Aunt Sarah, smiling in a Venetian Canal. Everyone knows what Aunt Sarah looks like; they also know what Europe's great landmarks(显著地面景观)look like.
But a young man named David, just back from a trip to Greece, asked a few friends over to see his slides. The young man had an artist's eye. His pictures were not of familiar Greek architectures. Instead he took pictures of farmers at work in the field, fishermen repairing their nets, and bearded priests(牧师)bending over their Bibles. He captured(抓住)the color and character of the country. His friends were so interested that they asked for more.
Any amateur(外行)can do the same. All he needs is a simple camera and a little sensitivity. When he learns that a nation lives in its people as well as in its landmarks, he moves from an amateur to an artist.

There are some easy things you can do to protect the environment and the earth. Choose ideas from the list or come up with a few of your own.
Plant flowers, grass or trees.
Whenever you visit a park or a beach, take away what you bring there and keep rubbish in a bag until you can put it in a dustbin.
Turn off the tap when you brush your teeth. You can save some water by not letting it run. Also, use a glass cup instead of a paper cup, because this saves paper.
Turn off the lights, TV sets when you leave the room. This saves a lot of electricity.
Keep the doors and windows closed in winter to keep warm instead of using air conditions.
Give your old clothes to poor children you know and give your old books and magazines to library instead of throwing them away.
Use both sides of paper.
Stop pouring dirty water into the river or lakes nearby.
Encourage all your friends to do the same things you do to help protect the earth.
