The Japanese school system(体系) is different from the rest of the world.

Most schools have a three—term system with new school years starting every April. There are six grades in the elementary school (小学). Japan has one of the longest school days in the world. Even after the school ends, children still have other homework to keep them busy.

School holidays are six weeks long during the summer break and about two weeks long in whether the winter or the spring break.

Every class has its own classroom. During elementary education, in most cases, one teaches all of the subjects in each class. The number of the students in one class is usually under 40.

Here are some interesting facts about Japanese school: Nearly all junior high schools require their students to wear school uniforms. Most students in Japan really feel happy in school; students spend 205 minutes on language class and 165 minutes on science class every week (in other countries, 215 and 200 minute). But they spend more time on maths class—235 minutes every week (in other countries, 218 minutes).

The American cowboy was a great hero through facts and stories.

In history, the real cowboy was a simple farm worker on horseback. The work was dirty, tiring and not paid very well. Cowboys had to take care of cows day and night, When they were alone with the cows, they often sang beautiful and peaceful songs to keep the animals calm and overcome their own fear. They were not well-educated, so they sang about their daily life in very simple words. Country Western music became popular first among cowboys in the American west countryside.

The cowboy quickly received popularity. Historians say that this was because the cowboy appeared during a time of change in American life. The cowboy seemed free and more independent than other Americans.

At present, the life of real cowboys has changed greatly. There is no need for the modern cowboys to sleep on the ground. Modern cowboys are paid well and are found in almost every state of the United States. Most modern cowboys do not make much money from raising cattle(). Many do it because they love the cowboy life.

Compared with cars, bicycles truly have many advantages. Riding bikes not only does good to people's health but also makes it possible to move easily past heavy traffic.

So, here comes James Starley, a British inventor and producer who is widely considered to be the father of the bicycle industry. His inventions and improvements made the bicycle available for wide spread.

James Starley was born on April 21, 1831. In his early years, he worked in the Coventry Sewing Machine(缝纫机) Company. And there, Starley tried to work out improvements to the early sewing machines, and his own invention, “The European" really helped a lot.

In 1868, Starley saw his first bicycle, a French velocipede(脚踏两轮车), weighing as much as 160 pounds. The twowheeled, riderpropelled(人驱动的) wooden bicycle required the rider to use his own feet to move the bicycle along. In 1869, the Coventry Sewing Machine Company decided to produce bicycles based on a worker, Rowley B. Turner's suggestion. What Starley first managed to do is cut off part of the weight of the velocipedes. Then, he invented the Coventry Model, and he won his place as the father of the modern bicycle. Next, Starley invented the Ariel bicycle.

In 1870, he went into business for himself. The Ariel, his lightweight all metal bicycle was first sold in 1871, to be the first true bicycle. It was the first twowheeled self—propelled bicycle.

Later, Starley introduced what was to be his greatest contribution (贡献) to the bicycle development. His Tangent bicycle, introduced in 1874, made the wheels far stronger than earlier models. Putting all of the earlier advantages into one four—wheeled machine, Starley next produced the Salvo which was believed to be his creative masterpiece.

Though auto(机动的) industry has been rapidly developed, bicycles are still playing a important role in people's daily transportation.
