Living in a new era of high technology, ...

Living in a new era of high technology, more people choose to ask for help by using crowd funding (众筹) online. Some people think it’s convenient and people can get help in time when they are in trouble. There are some other people refusing to donate money in this way. They don’t think the money can be used properly. The following are what some people think about the new way of donating money.

Jackson

Thanks to the crowd funding, I have a chance to succeed in starting a company. About three years ago, I got help from almost eighty thousand strangers. With the money raised from them, my dream to have my own company came true. Next year, my workmates and I plan to donate some of my money to other people in need if the company goes well.

Maria

I often do volunteer work in my free time. I’ve been volunteering for nearly six years. But I am unfamiliar with how crowd funding works. I don’t think I have time and energy to check whether the online information about the people is true. So I never use crowd funding. I prefer to help people in my neighborhood.

Jean

Everyone in my family was upset and lost hope when they knew I had a serious illness. I was really thankful to the nurse who told us to try to raise money with help of crowd funding. At first, my parents thought it was unbelievable and impossible to get the money. When they realized they had no choice but to carry out the nurse’s advice, they tried and got the money for my operation. I will try my best to work harder and repay the helpers’ love to me.

When they realized they had no choice but to carry out the nurse’s advice我真的很感谢护士告诉我们试着在群众资助的帮助下筹集资金。一开始,我父母认为这是难以置信的,不可能得到钱。当他们意识到他们别无选择只能执行护士的建议时,可知C选项是正确的;根据文中Some people think it’s convenient and people can get help in time when they are in trouble. 有些人认为这很方便,人们遇到困难时可以及时得到帮助。可知是一些人,并不是所有人,所以D项错误,故选C。

During Beijing’s two sessions (两会), many proposals and suggestions were referred to. Here are three problems that might interest you.

Smartphone ban (禁止)

According to the survey made last year, 68.1 percent of Chinese school students have their own smartphones.

Lei Yanqin, a deputy of NPC, suggested that smartphones should be banned at schools nationwide. She said that listening to music and playing games in class not only disturb teachers, but also make it difficult for students to listen carefully. She added that students might also show off (炫耀) their phones too much.

New uniform designs

Most junior high schools in China require students to wear a uniform. However, only three in ten students are satisfied with their uniforms, as they think they are old-fashioned and of poor quality, China Education Daily reported.

The Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang Central Committee suggested that the uniforms could be redesigned. The committee said the new design could include more elements (元素) of traditional Chinese culture. They added that better quality clothing should be used to make the uniforms so that they will be more comfortable to wear.

Video game rating system

Over 200 million teenagers across China play online games like King of Glory, Guangming Daily reported. With their computers and ipads, teenagers are able to play most online games produced in China and abroad. However, some violent games might not be suitable for young people.

Many NPC deputies suggested that a rating system (分级制度) for online games should be introduced. All games would be sorted into age groups according to their content. Players would have to provide their ID numbers before playing certain games.

People who are your age, ________ your classmates, are called peers. When they try to influence how you act, to get you to do something, it’s called peer pressure.

Sometimes peers influence each other in negative ways. For example, a few kids in school might try to get you to cut class with them; your soccer friend might try to convince you to be mean to another player and never pass him the ball.

It is hard to be the only one who says “no” to peer pressure, but you can do it. ________ your own feelings and beliefs about what is right and wrong can help you know the right thing to do.
