In our daily lives many people always have negative thoughts. Being in a negative space is harmful to our life and study. If you keep them in mind, you will lose hope sooner or later. Let’s drive away some of the most common negative thoughts.

No one cares about me.

Sometimes you say that your family and friends don’t care about you. Maybe you are too negative and misunderstand the gestures of love they show you. They don’t have to be big gestures, but there are many countless little things they do for you. Maybe you just pay no attention to them and take them as granted. Perhaps you think they don’t care about you so you don’t make any effort in your relationships. Start showing people you care, so they can show you back in the same way. And if you don’t have good relationships wit the people you know, what’s stopping you from making new friends?

Why is she better off?

Comparing yourself to someone else is never positive. There’s always going to be someone who is younger, prettier, smarter, or richer than you. If you keep admiring what someone else has, then this may cause you to lose the balance in your mind, which will open a whole other negative can of worms. Remember, what they don’t have is your whole package. Be proud of what you have, because if you want to play the comparison game, remember that there are people who are also worse off than you are.

I’ll never reach my goal.

If you think you’re not going to be able to “get there”, think again. There are many people who are worse off and have overcome more difficulty than what you are facing.

Everything is within your reach as long as you work hard and have a positive attitude.

Say you’re sitting around with some friends playing video games and someone mentions a game that happens to be one of your favorites. “Oh, that game’s easy. So not worth the time,” one of your friends says. The others agree. Although you enjoy the game quite a lot, not wanting to argue with them, you go along with the crowd.

You have just experienced what is commonly referred to as peer pressure(同伴压力), also called peer influence. You will adopt a certain type of behavior, dress, or attitude in order to be accepted as part of a group of your “peers”. As a teen, you are likely to have experienced the effect of peer pressure in a number of different areas.

We are all influenced by our peers at any age. For teens, as school and other activities take you away from home, you may spend more time with your friends than with your family. As you become more independent, your peers naturally play a greater role in your life.

According to Dr. Casey from Cornell University, teens are very quick and accurate in making decisions on their own and in situations where they have time to think. However, when they make decisions in the heat of the moment or in social situations, their decisions are often influenced by factors like peers. In a recent study, teen volunteers played a video driving game, either alone or with friends watching. The researchers discovered that the number of risks teens took more than doubled when their friends were watching, compared with when they played alone. This shows that teens may find it more difficult to control risky behavior when their friends are around, or in situations where they are extremely angry. Just as people can influence us to make unwise choices, they can also influence us to make good ones. A teen might join in a volunteer project because his or her friends are doing it, or get good grades because his or her friends think getting good grades is important. In fact, friends often encourage each other to study, or try out for sports.

While we are always influenced by those around us, the decision to act or not is up to us. So when it comes to decision making, the choice is up to you.

A.like to play driving games with their friends

2.The words “in the heat of the moment” in Paragraph 4 probably mean “_________”.

A.when teens avoid possible risks B.when teens trust their judgment

C.when teens lose control over their anger D.when teens give consideration to situations

3.What can we learn from the passage?

A.Teens are eager to be different from their peers.

B.Peer pressure has effects on both teens and adults.

C.Peer pressure does more harm than good to teens.

D.Tees think it challenging to get good grades at school.

4.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?

A.Peer Pressure: Is It Necessary to Deal with It?

B.Peer Pressure: Is It Possible to Get Away from It?

C.Peer Pressure: Its Benefits to Teens and Friend Making

D.Peer Pressure: Its Influence on Teens and Decision Making

Alice Munro is the first Canadian citizen to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Munro was born into a farming family in Ontario in 1931. The family was very poor.

Munro did a lot of physical work as a young girl. She started writing stories in her teens and studied journalism and English at the University of Western Ontario. She published in many magazines starting in the 1950s. in 1968, she published Dance of the Happy Shades, a collection of short stories. In 1971, she published a collection of stories Lives of Girls and Women, and in many of the stories she talks about her poor relationship with her mother.

Since her first book in 1968, Munro has won many awards, including the 2009 Man Booker International Prize, with the 2013 Nobel Prize as her biggest honor. But Munro doesn’t see herself as a talented writer.

“Alice Munro is mostly known as a short story writer and yet she brings as much depth, wisdom and precision(精确) to every story as most novelists bring to a lifetime of novels.” The Man Booker judging committee said.

Munro became world-famous for writing about everyday people. “Here we have a world prize being won by someone who writes about housewives in Vancouver(温哥华), booksellers in Victoria, bean farmers in Huron Country and accountants and teachers and librarians— common Canadian people, and she turns it into magic,” said Doug Gibson, Munro’s publisher.

“After many years, many collections and many wonderful stories, readers may feel they know everything about Alice Munro, especially as so many of her characters live lives similar to her own. In fact, we know very little about her. This is one of the reasons readers are crazy about Munro. This other reason is that she is so good.” said Anne Enright from Guardian.
