A warm story has been taking place on one end of Islington Road.

Glenda and Raphael Savitz met with each other in 2011 in Boston. They fell in love and got married in the fall of 2013. In the summer of 2016, the couple moved to Auburndale, Florida. Three months later, their daughter Samantha was born..

However, within a week, the doctor told them that their newborn baby was deaf. It was a hard blow to the couple.  What should they do? They had no choice but to help her learn sign language. "We are going to learn it, too. It is important for her growth and development," the mother said.

But they didn't expect it when their neighbors all started to learn sign language. " We were excited that this new baby was coming," said Jill McNeil, one of the neighbors. "But it's frustrating (令人沮丧的)not to be able to say, " Oh, Samantha, I love your pretty pink pants. " To communicate with the cute girl, they had to know her language.  So these neighbors hired a tutor without letting Glenda and Raphael know.

Go. Like. Want. Eat. Play. Have. Make. These adult-students started with simple words. They then learnt to ask questions in sign language, such as " Who do you live with?" and " Where does your family live?"

Now the American Sign Language has become a second tongue in the neighborhood. These kind neighbors practice it with the girl almost every day.

Growing up in such a warm neighborhood, Samantha is now a happy and energetic(充满活力的)girl. She greets her neighbors every time she sees them. It's an amazing situation, since deaf children can be shy.

Samantha is a lucky girl. She has found real family among all those people next door.
