Everybody knows Amadeus Mozart, the world’s most famous child piano prodigy (天才) . He was a composer, pianist, and performer (表演家)-a musician. He was born in Austria, but his real name is not popular. People know him as Amadeus, but not many people know he was born John Chrysostom Wolfgang Theophilus Mozart, and his father called him Woferl.
As a child, Mozart was very popular. That was because he was doing things unusual for little children. While everyone else was having fun playing, Mozart was already composing, performing and touring for concerts. His father was always behind him.
Here are some stories about his gift. When he heard an “oink” of a pig and recognized (辨认) it as a G-sharp. And he was only two years old at the time!
He also took part in piano lessons at the age of three and he could already learn a minuet in thirty minutes when he was four years old! Who wouldn’t be amazed?
At the age of six, while performing, he found people getting bored, so he thought of performing a trick (花招) , But nobody knew he had the keyboard covered (遮盖) with a cloth and still played the music perfectly. He was still a child having fun at that time.
It was told that he lived a hard and poor life. He didn’t even have a stable (稳定的) job when he got married and he died really poor. Once a friend visited him one winter day, and found Mozart and his wife waltzing round the room. “We were cold,” they said, “and we have no money to make a fire.” They were cold, but they still chose a different way to make them warm.
All in all, Mozart didn’t only leave great music but a great lesson too: that no matter how difficult life is, there is always room for smiles, love and fun.

Dear Henry,
I am writing to you from the home of my Aunt Grace and Uncle Jacob in Missouri. We stopped here for a few days to visit and rest. Now I am sitting on Aunt Grace’s chair in the garden alone. We left Pennsylvania seven weeks ago and it was really hard to sit on the covered wagon (有蓬的马车) to travel. It is only seven weeks, but it seems like much more!
Luckily, our journey is almost over. My dad likes the look of the land near St. Louis. He thinks we can have a new home here. And Mom likes the idea of living near Aunt Grace and Uncle Jacob. They wanted to help us build our new home and clear land for our rice field (田地) . Uncle Jacob will also give us a horse and some chickens. It seems we will have a good start.
I miss (想念) Pennsylvania already. I miss the mountains. I miss fishing at Thunder River. But mostly I miss my old friends and neighbors. Please say hello to everyone for me. I will write again soon. Please write back.

Every year, we celebrate many special days-Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and New Year’s Day. In North America and parts of Europe, people celebrate April Fool’s Day.
Many believe that the French started April Fool’s Day. Centuries ago, New Year’s Day in Europe was April 1. In 1582, the calendar changed and King Charles IX of France moved it to January 1. Some people did not like this and chose to keep April 1 as New Year’s Day. Many called these people “April fools” and played jokes (开玩笑) on them. Over time, April 1 became a day to have fun in France. It then became popular in England and Scotland, and later, to North America.
On April Fool’s Day, playing jokes is popular. In the United States, for example, a person may move a friend’s clock one hour earlier, or change the sugar with salt.
