Cathy decided to ride her bike earlier than usual one morning. She wasn't alone on the road. She waved to several friends. On her way home, she felt something was wrong with her bike. She came to a stop and checked her bike. One of its tires(轮胎)was broken. Cathy was close enough to her apartment to walk the rest of the way. As she walked by the corner, she stopped and bought a paper as usual.
A photo on the front page of the newspaper caught her attention. The photo was of a large group of people, of all ages, riding bicycles. The sentences under the photo explained the picture. A bicycle club was riding through the city. They would be staying in town overnight. Cathy opened the newspaper. She found an article about the photo Cathy began to read:
Soldier Field will be home for more than fifty bike riders today. They will stay tonight and then leave to finish their trip.
The club, called the Pedalers, was set up. three years ago by Mike and Rose Genn.
The club takes short day trips each weekend of the year. There are also longer trips lo interesting places. These trips take hours of planning. The bikers must work hard to build their strength for long trips. They must be able to ride eighty to one hundred miles a day The club members like to meet people when they stay in a city. The public is invited to talk with members of the club while they are in town.
Cathy closed the paper and folded it. As she walked her bike back home, she decided that she would spend some time talking to the members of the Pedalers.

Paddleboarding(单桨冲浪) is a water sport. You can do this sport on rivers, but most of big competitions are held on the ocean. The main competition for paddleboarders is the race from Molokai to Oahu in Hawaii. It has been held each year since 1996 and covers about 50 kilometers. On a good day, with the right kind of waves, you don't always have to use your arms because the water carries you some of the way But, on a bad day, you are using your arms the whole way.
Competitors must be very strong. One of paddleboarding's most famous competitors is the Australian Jamie Mitchell. Not many people know about Mitchell, but he is the ten-time winner of the Molokai to Oahu Race.
Because the sport isn't well-known, the prize money for winning paddleboarding is small compared to other sports. But Mirchell surely loves the sport because he trains two or three times a day, six days a week, for the four months before the race. At the same time, he has to make money, so he does anything including working in bars or building work.
So how does Mitchell stay interested in such a sport?. He says, “I just love paddleboarding. It's not about winning. It's about coming to Hawaii and spending time with my good friends in a place that I love.”

Though very cold temperature continue to trouble the US, an act of kindness has warmed. Everyone. In Chicago a young man provided a homeless old man with the proper footwear—from his own feet. Jessica Bell, a passenger, saw everything and posted the story on Facebook.
According to her Facebook post, Bell was taking the train home on Friday when she noticed a homeless old man sitting across from her Bell wrote that the man was wearing tattered shoes, and many pairs of socks to keep his feet warm, but there was blood through.
On the same train was another man. According to Bell's description, he was young, was carrying a bag and a suitcase. He was wearing big black snow boots(靴子),which looked new and expensive. They were built for a Chicago winter. Then he did a good thing.
Bell described that the young man took off his own boots and passed them to the old man. He opened his suitcase and gave him a pair of socks as well. Then the young man put on a different pair of socks as well. After that the young man put on a different pair of shoes--not as nice as the ones he had given away. He told the old man to try them on and helped him clean his feet and change into the new boots as quickly as he could, and then left the train.
At the end of her post, Bell wrote, “I love my city. I love that in a time and place where a quiet act of kindness appears without warning.”
The story has received thousands of comments(评论), with many people describing how moving they found the act of kindness. One wrote, “We can all learn from that young man.” Others are thanking Bell for sharing the story--there are still good people in the world.
