BASEBALL. It’s just a word, but for millions of Americans, it brings to mind so many images (印象).

Hot dogs. Cold beers. Sunny afternoon. Baseball is the game of fathers and sons. Fathers and sons have been playing catch with each other on lawns (草坪) for generations (一代人) in the US. A father’s favorite team becomes his son’s. Grandfathers talk to their grandsons about games played long ago.

Many American kids collect baseball cards. The cards have pictures of their favorite players on them. In schools, friends trade (交易) baseball cards just like they trade lunches.

Players are known as “the boys of summer” because the sport is most often played in the warm months. You don’t need to be of a certain size or shape to play baseball. You don’t have to be tall like a basketball player or strong like an American footballer. You just need to want to have fun.

Baseball is not as fast a game as basketball. But when you go to see a game there’s time to relax, talk and get to know other people.

Baseball may not be the most popular sport in the US, but it is the most traditional (传统的). It’s not just a game any more, but a key part of American culture, like apple pie and grandma’s house.

1.Fathers and sons. 2.Yes, they do. 3.Because the sport is most often played in the warm months. 4.Basketball. 1.根据第二段中“Fathers and sons have been playing catch with each other on lawns (草坪) for generations (一代人) in the US.” 故填Fathers and sons. 2.根据第三段中“In schools, friends trade (交易) baseball cards just like they trade lunches.” 故填Yes, they do. 3.根据第四段中“Players are known as “the boys of summer” because the sport is most often played in the warm months.” Because the sport is most often played in the warm months. 4.根据第五段中“Baseball is not as fast a game as basketball.”

For many centuries, people have asked: Why do we dream? What do our dreams mean? Today, science doesn’t have definite answers to these questions, but we do know some things about dream. First, we all dream, often four to five times a night. Second, we don’t usually remember most of our dreams. And finally, when we dream, our brains are very awake.

Thousands of years ago, people began to study dreams. In many cultures, people believed dreams were messages from spirit or gods. Later, the ancient Greeks and Romans had a new idea—Dreams come from a person’s mind. Doctors studied dreams to help sick or worried people.

In the past, some cultures used dreams to predict the future. They thought dreams could help a person choose a husband or wife, guess a baby birthday, or start a business. In some places, this practice is still common.

Today, scientists think dreams are about our thoughts and feelings. Our brains send us messages about our lives. Unluckily, many messages are often strange or confusing. People wake up and think: what did that dream mean?

So, how can you understand the messages in your dreams? Think about the events in the dream. What do they say about your life? For example, one common dream is about flying. Sometimes this dream means you feel free or want freedom. Other times it means you feel afraid. What do your dreams tell you about your life?
