Two days ago, I had taken a test in Biology, and I knew that I would get my scores in the same class today.

After the bell rang, every student sat in his or her seat impatiently. Then, one by one, the teacher called our names.

As each paper was given back to the correct student, the front of the answer paper would always be turned to face the ground and the paper itself would be slightly folded (折叠) to prevent anyone from seeing.

In fact, folding each test paper is a way to make sure that each student sees only his or her own scores. The scores are seen as private information not to be announced or shown to others. As a way to keep the students' score records secret, each student is given an online account (帐号) with which to check his or her grades posted on the official school website.

Protecting students' private information always comes first in US schools that want to free students from unnecessary pressure. School reports are guarded closely to prevent poor grades from damaging a student's dignity and reputation (尊严和声誉), which are for himself or herself only.

However, some insist that although students' feelings and self-dignity are easily hurt, they cannot be forever protected. They say that school also teach their students to make themselves stronger in mind, and the classroom should show the reality of competition in society. Scores that everyone can see might better encourage students to work harder to be better than others.

When watching sports events, we often notice athletes wearing earphones before the competition. They keep their eyes shut, and gently nod along the beats. It seems the music is giving them power and cheering them up for the competition. But is there any science behind such practices?

According to a new research, it turns out there is. Music makes us feel powerful, but not all songs have the same effect.

The research was led by Dennis Hsu of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in the US. His team had people listen to 31 songs of different types. The listeners felt powerful after listening to some songs, for example Queen’s We Will Rock You and 2 Unlimited’s Get Ready for This.

Researchers also found that high-power music made people want to take control in social events and come first in competition.

That matters a lot in sports. “It’s commonly said that sports are 90 percent mental(心理的) and only 10 percent physical(身体的),” The Huffington Post reported.

Great athletes know this idea well. NBA player Kobe Bryant, for example, often puts on big headphones and even falls into deep thought to boost his game and reduce his anxiety(焦虑).

Why does music have magical power? Hsu’s team explained: when people hear music that expresses a sense of power, they mimic (模拟) these feelings in their mind.

When choosing music, we also need to look at the type of music, according to researchers.

In the research by the Music in Exercise and Sport Group at Brunel University in London, they found that pop was perfect for slower tasks. If you’re warming up or cooling down after exercises, pop songs are the correct choice. Dance music was found to be best suitable for strength and weight training.

B. People listening to powerful music may produce similar feelings in their mind.

C. Most athletes still don’t know the influence of high-power music on their games.

D. The result of a game is mainly influenced by the physical condition of the players.

On the first day of the New Year 2017,I made up my mind to go to Thailand to teach English as a volunteer. At the beginning, all I cared about was travelling and seeing the world. I didn’t know how fantastic my life would be in the coming months!

My journey began with attending TESOL certification(认证) course in my home state of Florida last February. After 3 weekends of study and another 40 hours’ study online, I received my TESOL certificate(证书).

I was asked to contact Philip, who is Program Director of the Teach in Thailand. After discussing with Philip,I chose my school and after many months of excitement,I finally flew to Thailand in early April and I couldn’t wait to explore the country!

What happens when we want to do something impossible? It may seem unlikely, but it is our true nature. It may seem silly, but it is our heart’s purpose.

Once there was a strong camel. She liked dancing very much. She wanted to be a ballet (芭蕾舞) dancer. “To make every movement a thing of beauty,” said the camel, “is my dream.”

Again and again she practiced. She repeated the five basic positions a hundred times each day. She worked for long months under the hot sun, but not once did she think of stopping.

At last the camel said, “Now, I am a dancer.” She gave a performance and danced before an invited group of friends. She did very well. When her dance was over, she made a deep bow.

There was no applause (鼓掌). Instead, everyone laughed at her.

“I must tell you frankly,” said one of her friends, “you are lumpy and humpy. You don’t have any talent in dancing. You are, like the rest of us, simply a camel. You are just an animal. You are not and never will be a ballet dancer!” With these words, they moved away across the sand, laughing and joking.

“How wrong they are!” said the camel. “I have worked hard. I will be a good dancer. I will dance and dance just for myself.” That is what she did. It gave her many years of pleasure.

She practiced hard and made much progress in her dancing skills. Occasionally, the camel was chosen to perform at an animal party before her old friends. The camel was lucky because she knew exactly what she wanted and she never gave up.

2.What did the other camels think of the camel’s dancing at first?

A. They thought poorly of it.    B. They seemed calm about it.

C. They enjoyed it excitedly.    D. They were surprised at it.

3.Which of the following words can best describe the camel?

A. Crazy.    B. Confident.    C. Proud.    D. Unlucky.

4.What can we learn from the story?

A. Choose a job you are good at.

B. Dance for the pleasure of others.

C. Success results from hard work.

D. Dancing needs more practice.
