What will the future be like? It’s possible that we may often fly up into space! Out of all the coolest inventions of the year 2004, Time magazine chose SpaceShipOne as the best.

SpaceShipOne is a 6-metre-long white spacecraft. On June 21, American pilot Mike Melvill flew it to space and back—about 100 kilometres up into the sky. Some might say it’s not a big success. You know, people went to the Moon years ago.

Well, SpaceShipOne is special because it is the first spaceship that wasn’t made by the government. It was built and sent up by a private US company. Lots of people want to travel in space and think that it is an enjoyable trip. But it’s too expensive. American millionaire Dennis Tito paid almost US $20 million to become the first space tourist to visit the International Space Station in 2001. So private companies began to think of making their own spacecraft to take other tourists up into space.

Certainly, the success of SpaceShipOne is a good start. In the next 10 to 15 years, if you

pay $20,000 to $100,000, you could fly high above the Earth in a special suit.

Can you imagine having your own spacecraft in your garage and taking it to space at the weekend?

Out of all the coolest inventions of the year 2004, Time magazine chose SpaceShipOne as the best可知,《时代》杂志评出宇宙飞船一是2004年最酷的发明,就此引出文章的中心,由此可知这里应填invention,名词,发明。 2. SpaceShipOne is a 6-metre-long white spacecraft可知,宇宙飞船1有六米长,原文6-metre-long是合成形容词,六米长的,做定语,修饰名词spacecraft。 Well, SpaceShipOne is special because it is the first spaceship that wasn’t made by the government. Well, SpaceShipOne is special because it is the first spaceship that wasn’t made by the government. It was built and sent up by a private US company可知,宇宙飞船1是由一个美国的私人工作制造并发射的,而不是由政府制造的。 Out of all the coolest inventions of the year On June 21, American pilot Mike Melvill flew it to space and back可知,在6月21号,它做了它的第一次太空飞行。 On June 21, American pilot Mike Melvill flew it to space and back可知,Mike Melvill 是飞行员,pilot飞行员。 7.根据短文第二段中about 100 kilometres up into the sky可知,宇宙飞船1飞行到了距离地面100公里的高度,surface名词,地面,表面。 8. In the next 10 to 15 years, if you pay $20,000 to $100,000, you could fly high above the Earth in a special suit. In the next 10 to 15 years, if you pay $20,000 to $100,000, you could fly high above the Earth in a special suit. Can you imagine having your own spacecraft in your garage and taking it to space at the weekend可知,也许在未来你可以乘坐你自己的宇宙飞船去太空过周末。

Ladies and gentlemen, I returned to this year in a time machine. In the year 2500, we are able to travel through time to any year in history. This year is your last chance to change your lifestyle to save the Earth.

Beginning in the middle of the 20th century, a few people were worried about the polluted water and air on the Earth, but most people did not change their way of life. Instead, they continued to pour dangerous chemicals (化学品)and other waste into lakes and seas, to drive more and more cars and trucks, and to cut down trees.

By the year 2200, the water on the Earth was completely polluted. People could no longer drink the water, and they had to use other types of liquids. Scientists said that in the future there might be too many people on the Earth. But not enough was done. So, by the year 2300, there were so many people that food became scarce. There was no water to grow food and all fish in the lakes and seas died because of pollution. Terrible wars broke out between the rich and the poor. Scientists were working very hard to find another planet in space where humans could live.

By the year 2400, the air was too polluted for humans to breathe. So we had to leave the Earth. But only the rich were able to leave. Where did we go? Nowhere. And everywhere. You see scientists did not find another safe planet, so now we must travel around the universe (宇宙)

in our spaceships. We are still looking for a place to call our home. So, it is up to you to change history. There is still hope. You must change your lifestyle now, before it is too late.
