Ladies and gentlemen, I returned to this year in a time machine. In the year 2500, we are able to travel through time to any year in history. This year is your last chance to change your lifestyle to save the Earth.
Beginning in the middle of the 20th century, a few people were worried about the polluted water and air on the Earth, but most people did not change their way of life. Instead, they continued to pour dangerous chemicals (化学品）and other waste into lakes and seas, to drive more and more cars and trucks, and to cut down trees.

By the year 2400, the air was too polluted for humans to breathe. So we had to leave the Earth. But only the rich were able to leave. Where did we go? Nowhere. And everywhere. You see scientists did not find another safe planet, so now we must travel around the universe (宇宙)
in our spaceships. We are still looking for a place to call our home. So, it is up to you to change history. There is still hope. You must change your lifestyle now, before it is too late.

Our reporter asked people what they were doing on July 20th, 1969 when man first walked
on the Moon. Here is what they said:
Kate Jones, waitress: I remember that day very well. I was fifteen years old. It was a hot day and I was with my family in the mountains. We were having a picnic. We didn’t see the Moon landing when it happened, but we were thinking about it. We saw it later on the TV news.
John Bates, postman: I was eighteen years old. It was a very exciting day. I was watching TV at home when the astronaut walked on the Moon. His name was Neil Armstrong. I remember he could jump really high because people aren’t so heavy on the Moon. When he returned, he became a national hero in America, and famous all over the world.
Paul Robinson, doctor: I was twelve. I remember the day, but I don’t remember what I was doing. I remember I wanted to go to the Moon, too. My dream was to become an astronaut and fly in a rocket (火箭). I wanted to see the Earth from the Moon. The astronauts on the Moon said that the Earth looked very beautiful from there.

I am my mother’s third girl. When I was born, the doctor gently explained to my mother that my left arm was missing, below the elbow (肘). Then he gave her some advice, “Don’t treat her any differently from the other girls.” And she did!
There were five girls in our family and we all had to help out. Once when I was about seven, I came out of the kitchen, “Mum, I can’t peel (削……皮) potatoes. I only have one hand.” “You get back to peel those potatoes, and don’t ever use that as an excuse for anything again!”
Of course I could peel potatoes—with my good hand and my other arm. “Jenny, if you try hard enough,” she said, “you can do anything.”

When it was my turn, I said no. Some kids laughed. I went home crying.
The next afternoon Mum took me back to the school playground. “Now, pull up with your right arm,” she advised. She praised me when I made progress. I’ll never forget when I was crossing the bar, the kids were standing there with their mouths open.
