Mexican people have a tradition of greet...

Mexican people have a tradition of greeting each other with handshakes and kisses on the cheek. But recently, the government asked people to stop doing this. They have also closed schools and museums, and advised people to stay at home.   This is to stop people from catching an infectious (传染性的) disease, swine flu (猪流感). The disease has spread over the country in the past month. It has killed 159 people and caused 4,000 to become sick.   What is swine flu? Swine flu is a disease that causes illness in pigs. It spreads to people in two ways. They catch the virus (病毒) after being with infected pigs, or they get it from an infected person. The disease spreads in the same way as human flu, through coughs and sneezes, or by touching a contaminated surface (被污染的表面) and then touching the nose or mouth. However, it cannot be spread by eating pork. People who have caught swine flu will have a fever, a cough, a sore throat and body aches. In most cases, the infection makes people unwell but their lives will not be in danger.    How serious is the situation?   Since swine flu started in Mexico about a month ago, it has spread to a few other countries. The US has reported 65 cases and Canada has reported 13 cases. Other countries are checking for possible cases. Last week, the World Health Organization said the flu was a “public health emergency (紧急情况)”. It says the disease could become a global outbreak.   A few governments around the world have advised people in their countries not to visit Mexico. Some countries have begun checking air travelers for the disease. Russia, China and other countries have stopped buying pork from Mexico, though the flu cannot be caught by eating the meat. Health experts advise people to wash their hands frequently, to cover coughs and sneezes and to stay home if they feel ill.

1.What does the story mainly tell us?

A. Swine flu is very different from bird flu.

B. Swine flu is a kind of flu only caught by pigs.

C. There are many ways to stop swine flu spreading.

D. Swine flu has attracted wide attention because of its spread to many countries.

2.Which of the following is True?

A. The WHO said that swine flu might become a global problem.

B. Swine flu is an infectious disease which is only spreading in Mexico.

C. The expert said swine flu could be caught by eating pork.

D. All Mexican people still greet each other in their traditional ways.

3.According to the article, __________ hasn’t found swine flu yet.

A. the US    B. Mexico    C. Russia    D. Canada

4.We can infer from the article that _______________________________.

A. swine flu is a new kind of flu and we don’t know anything about it

B. people in other countries don’t like Mexicans because of swine flu

C. if we wash our hands carefully, we’ll be completely safe from swine flu

D. if we follow the experts’ advice, we won’t catch swine flu very easily

This is to stop people from catching an infectious (传染性的) disease, swine flu (猪流感). The disease has spread over the country in the past month. Last week, the World Health Organization said the flu was a “public health emergency (紧急情况)”. It says the disease could become a global outbreak可知,世界健康组织说猪流感可能变成全球性的突发事件。 Since swine flu started in Mexico about a month ago, it has spread to a few other countries. The US has reported 65 cases and Canada has reported 13 cases. Health experts advise people to wash their hands frequently, to cover coughs and sneezes and to stay home if they feel ill可知,健康专家建议人们经常洗手,咳嗽、打喷嚏的时候要遮盖、如果感觉不舒服就待在家里,因此听专家的建议,这种疾病是不容易感染上的。 The disease has spread over the country in the past month可知,猪流感不是一种新的疾病,它已经在很多国家传播,故A不对;短文中并没有提到人们不喜欢墨西哥人,故B不对;C选项错在completely,太绝对了。

My mother comes up to my room and tells me that my father has got a new job. That’s why we’re moving. “Don’t you want to know where we’re going?” she asks. “Not really,” I say. She tells me anyway. I pretend not to listen.

Every day my parents tell me something about the town that will become our new home. There is a statue (雕塑) honoring hero, a strawberry festival every year and the mayor(市长) used to be a professional football player. There are oak trees in our new neighborhood, just like the one on our yard. Pictures of these begin to fill in my mind. I start wondering what it might be like to live in such a town. On the day before we leave, I walk in the direction as if I were going to school. When I see the tiny old lady, I tell her goodbye, and she tells me to carry an umbrella when it rains. Her tiny dog holds out a tiny paw to shake my hand. The man at the newspaper store shakes my hand, too. The twins wave to me as they get on the bus. I go home, walking slowly through streets lined with oak trees.

A large truck is parked in front of our house. The movers are carrying boxes while my parents are putting suitcases into our car. Soon our house will be empty, but not for long. I know that somewhere there are parents telling their children about a new town filled with oak trees, a place where they will meet nice people.

Last year I spent my whole winter vacation in the US with my host family. The most unforgettable experience I had there was joining the Boy Scouts (童子军) of America. It was there that I got to face a great challenge: camping in the rain.

One Saturday, we went hiking in the rain for more than six hours. When we finally reached the camping site, my shoes, my clothes, my bag and all the things inside it were totally soaked.

Then, an even worse thing happened. Our guide teacher stepped out and said: “Today’s hiking is a test. We’re not going back home tonight! We have to live here tonight!” Soon we began to accept the truth and went to work. We just covered ourselves with a kind of plastic sheet and lay down by the campfire. While sleeping, I woke up several times. But to my surprise, I adapted (适应) to the environment quickly. Many others didn’t even fall asleep.

The sun finally rose and our hope returned. The bus came at 6 am and sent us back to our lovely home.

Many in China say that children in the US were born with an adventurous spirit. But I think they were born with nothing different. Instead, they make differences by facing troubles positively. The camping adventure was a gift they gave themselves. Many Chinese children are over-protected when they are growing up. Therefore, when facing troubles, how can it be possible for us to react positively?
