To write a great news story, you have to make sure it is correct, relevant (相关的) and fresh.
For a start, all the information in a story must be correct. Not only the spelling and grammar, but also the facts.
Any mistakes that show up in a story can get a newspaper into big trouble.
For example, if a newspaper said that Yang Liwei was the first man to go into space, it would be wrong. He wasn’t the first. The newspaper would probably lose lots of readers because of that mistake.
A news story does not only have to be correct, but it must also be relevant to its readers. People are mostly interested in news that happens near to them. That’s why you care more about what happens at your school than at schools in America. It’s also why newspapers in Beijing don’t talk much about news in Shanghai or Hong Kong.
Make sure it’s fresh.
Finally, news must always be fresh. When you pick up your evening newspaper, you want to read about news that happened that day. You don’t want to read about news from last week!
So, now you know what makes a good news story. Have a look at our paper and see if it’s full of good news! You can try writing a news story for our paper like a real reporter.
1.
A. The reporter will probably have a lot of trouble.
B. The newspaper would attract more readers.
C. Many readers won’t buy the newspaper any more.
D. The reporter won’t be able to write for the newspaper again.
2.
A. Because the information was not fresh.
B. Because the information was not correct.
C. Because the information was not relevant.
D. Because the information was not useful.
3.People are mostly interested in news that happens near to them, so newspapers in Beijing talk much about news in .

“Why does the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side!”
That’s an old joke in the West, but it came to my mind again when I saw people crossing the road at theintersectionof Shaanxi Road and Huaihai Road in Shanghai.
When the traffic light was red, a group of people were waiting for the light to change. Suddenly one man began rushing to the other side of the road. Soon others followed him at the crossing and more people did the same. Just like chickens, they didn’t mind the honking horns (喇叭声) and kept crossing the road in a mess.
Every year several thousand people are either killed or hurt on the roads in Shanghai. And at least one third of them were jaywalking (乱穿马路). Jaywalking is very common in Shanghai. It seems that jaywalkers are not afraid of the danger to themselves.
Traffic laws are to keep people safe. So we should obey them, and have good road-crossing habits. When someone starts to jaywalk, we should stop him, and never follow him. That way we can avoid the traffic accidents.
