If you feel stressed, what should you do...

If you feel stressed, what should you do? What you see, hear, taste, smell, and touch affects your stress level. The following are tips on how to please your senses to reduce stress.

Touch

There are many____(1)____to please your___(1)___of touch. For example: Give or receive a message. Pet your cat or dog. Hug somebody you love.

Hearing

(2) Reduce the noise around you and listen to relaxing music. Music is soothing(让人感到安慰的). CDs are available that offer sounds of nature to quiet the soul.

Sight

Why do we go on vacation? Usually because we need to relax, and see something new or different. Most of us live in crowded cities where our neighbors are within easy reach. We’re surrounded by buildings or highways-----not pretty sights. To please your eyes, go and find something beautiful and enjoy the view.

Taste

When you have a meal, do simply that: have the meal. Turn off the television, hang up the phone, stop working and focus only on the taste of the food you’re eating. You’ll enjoy your food so much more if you concentrate on enjoying it.

Smell

Burn scented (芬芳的)candles. Aromatherapy(芳香疗法) scents have been proven to be relaxing. Try some oil scents.

Do you think that living a hungry life is last century’s story? Well it may be this century’s headline.

The world has growing worries about a global food shortage. Right now there are still 870 million hungry people in the world according to a survey of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization. Children can’t escape this either. Around fifteen million children die of hungry each year.

What’s causing food shortages? There are several reasons.

There are now more droughts and floods. This is very harmful to farmers and their ability to grow food.

Besides with the growing population feeding everyone becomes more difficult. There are a little more than seven billion people in the world. By 2050 the world population will be more than nine billion.

Another reason is food waste. The average person throws away 50kg of food every year.

How can we help with food shortages? The easiest way is to cut down on food waste.

Next time before throwing away the food on your plate just think how much work has been done to make it. By buying less we waste less. This takes the pressure off producing so much food. And it helps to solve the problem of food shortage.

You can also ask your schoolmates to join you.

In 2013 researchers at Kansas State University in the US put up short anti-waste slogans(标语) in dining rooms “Think Before You Waste”. Guess what happened? Students wasted fifteen percent less food after that!

The author of the study said “You don’t need a huge activity to make a difference.”

Sometimes I really want to know if there is love between my parents. Every day they are very busy trying to make money for my schooling.

One day my mother was sewing a quilt(缝被子). I sat beside her.

“Mum is there love between you and Dad?” I asked in a very low voice.

With surprise in her eyes she stopped her work for a while. Then she said “Susan look at this  should be a thread. Love is inside.”

I couldn’t understand her until the next spring. At that time my father suddenly got sick seriously. My mother had to stay with him in the hospital for a month.

After they were back my mother helped my father walk slowly on the country road every day. They were so kind to each other and it seemed they were the happiest couple.

After two months my father still couldn’t walk by himself.

“Dad how are you feeling now?” I asked him one day.

“Susan don’t worry about me.” he said. “I just like walking with your mum. I like this kind of life.” I knew he loves my mother very much.

A habit is any action that we have performed so often that it becomes something that we do almost without thinking.  Some of them are thought to be bad. People spend countless hours and dollars each year trying to get rid of these bad habits but often fail. Why? Change is hard work andthere is no shortcut to achieve it. However there is still some advice for you to follow.

First look at why you do it.  In other words what's the result of doing this thing?  If your bad habit is shouting at people when you are unhappy or under pressure what do you get from it?  It may make you feel a little better for a moment. Or maybe you have a bad habit of leaving your homework undone. The result could be that you get more time to spend on the Internet!

Next take a look at them on the other hand.  What do you lose because of your  bad habits?  Shouting at other people is a bad habit because it makes people around you feel bad and unhappy. Leaving your homework undone is a bad habit because you  may be  punished by your teacher.  Having more Internet time means that you lose  the chance to  learn the things  that you need to learn.  When you think that way you'll find that it's not wise to keep your bad habits! Now it is time to make a decision. What will you choose? I'm sure you will choose to do what you think is more important.
