If you visit the animal shelter(收容所)in Saunas, California, you'll see huge signs that have a picture of a dog and a cat on them. These signs are put in front of the shelter to catch people's attention. The signs make people interested in the shelter and encourage them to visit it and maybe even take a cat or a dog into their homes.

Each year, the Salinas shelter accepts thousands of dogs and cats. The animals are either lost ones or are left by people who can't take care of them. Of all the animals, some of them are taken into new homes. Some others are moved to other shelters. And, unluckily, some cannot be saved because they are too sick or are thought to be dangerous.

Animal shelters provide food, medicine, and safe places for animals. But they are not the best homes. The animals stay in small cage(笼子). The people who work at shelters do their best to care for the animals, but the animals do not always get the attention or exercise they need.

To prevent animals from becoming homeless, pet owners should take good care of their pets. Most pet doctors also suggest people make sure their pets have a special surgery(外科手术). It prevents animals from having more babies. And that reduces the number of homeless animals.

1.How many dogs and cats does the Saunas shelter accept every year?

2.Why are the shelters not the best homes for the animals according to the passage?

3.If you find a homeless cat in the street, will you take it home? Why or why not?

1.It accepts a thousands of cats and dogs. 2.Beacause the animals in the shelters do not always get the attention or exercise they need. 3.Yes,I will. If it still lost in the street, maybe it will be sick or die .but if it is taken to my home,I can take care of it and make it grow up healthy. 【解析】 试题分析:本文讲述加利福尼亚的动物收容所,每年都会收成千上万的流浪动物,呼吁人们应该好好的对待自己的宠物,让他们得到好的照顾,减少无家可归的动物的数量。 1.根据文中Each year, the Salinas shelter accepts thousands of dogs and cats. 可知每年会收容成千上万的流浪狗和猫。 2.根据文中The people who work at shelters do their best to care for the animals, but the animals do not always get the attention or exercise they need.可知答案。 3.根据文中信息可知流浪动物数量很多如果在街道碰到无家可归的动物应该带回家好好照顾,以减少动物的死亡和流浪动物的数量。 考点:考查阅读短文回答问题。

He was an old man who fished alone in a small boat on the sea and he had gone eighty-four days now without taking a fish. In the first forty days a boy had been with him. But after forty days without a fish, the boy's parents had told him that the old man was now salao, which is the worst form of unlucky, and the boy had gone with another boat which caught three good fish the first week. It made the boy sad to see the old man come in each day with his boat empty. The sail looked like the flag of failure forever.

Dear Alan,

Guess what? I have a chance to choose my new place to live in! I'm excited and a little nervous. Could you please give me some help?

I'm not sure whether I will live in a house or in an apartment. On the one hand, a house will be too big for just one person, so maybe I should rent an apartment. On the other hand, if I rent (租)a house, I could find someone else to share with me. The only problem is that a house full of people might be too noisy for me. I prefer to have my own space. The city has some nice apartments, but they are also too expensive. However, if I could find a two-bedroom apartment and get a roommate, that would make it more affordable(负担得起的).I just need to search for a roommate who is neat and quiet. You know I can't live with someone who is loud and messy. I don't have a car, so I also need to think carefully about the location. I probably need to look for somewhere near a bus stop or an underground station. That way I will have more time to study and spend less time traveling.

I'm looking forward to your reply.

Love,

Victor
