The Chinese are very generous when it comes to educating their children. Some parents send their children to the best schools or even to England, the US or Australia, though this costs too much. Teaching a child to cook will improve many of the skills that he will need later in life. Cooking demands patience and time. It is an enjoyable but difficult experience. A good cook always tries to improve his cooking, so he will learn to work hard and gradually finish his job successfully. The result, a well-cooked dinner, will give a child a lot of pleasure and confidence.
An old machine such as a broken radio or TV set that you give your child as a toy may make him curious and interested. If he will spend hours looking at it, and try to repair it; your child might become an engineer when he grows up. Such activities do more than teach a child to read a book; but they teach them to think, and to use their minds. This is much more important than learning by reading a book.

195 countries reached an agreement on December 12 to do with climate(气候) change. It’s the first time in history that most of the world’s countries, rich or poor, agreed to take action. The meeting lasted two weeks. The agreement sets the long-time goal of making sure the world temperature does not get 2°C higher than the levels in the 1800s. Otherwise there will be serious problems on Earth like natural disasters.
The agreement also asks countries to volunteer to make promises based on each country’s economy(经济), politics and technology. For developed countries, they will do even more. One year, a college in the United States announced that it would offer a lot of money for the pure white marigold(金盏花). The high reward attracted so many people, but in the nature, besides golden, the marigold is brown, and it is not easy to get the white one. So after they were excited for a time, many people had forgotten the announcement.
One day after 20 years, the college received a letter and 100 seeds(种子) of pure white marigold. It turned out to be an old woman of over 70 years old.
