What do we really mean by being open? Being open is a kind of invitation to others to come in， to speak and to share. It is important for others to get to know how we think and feel. In this way， we will be understood and accepted by others. If we aren’t open with others， we won’t fully believe in ourselves or others.
Here are a few ways for you to be more open. First， make your outside behavior the same as your inside feelings and thoughts. Second， share how you really feel about something instead of just opinions. Third， try to change your questions into statements(陈述句) and talk in the first person so that people will understand you more easily. For example， you might say， “I feel happy that you’re here.” instead of“Are you glad that you’re here?” Finally， try not to say， “I don’t know.” This usually means I don’t want to think about it any more.
Remember also that it is not suitable to be open with everyone in every situation. You may want to be more open with close friends， but not with people you don’t know well， because you are not sure how someone else will use what they know about you. Besides， some people may not be used to too much openness. If we say everything we feel or think to them， they will feel very uncomfortable at times.

A traveler came out of the airport. There were a lot of taxis. He asked every taxi-driver his name. Then he took the third one. It cost 5 dollars from the airport to the hotel. “How much does it cost for the whole day?” the man asked. “100 dollars，” said the taxi-driver. This was very expensive， but the man said it was OK.
The taxi-driver took the man everywhere. He showed him all the parks and museums in the city. In the evening they went back to the hotel. Two children stood outside the door with old coats. “Any old papers， Lady?” asked one of them.
I was busy. I wanted to say no， but I saw that their shoes were broken and wet. “Come in and I’ll make you a cup of hot tea.” They came in， saying nothing. Their shoes left snow on the floor.
I gave them tea and bread to protect them against the cold outside. Then I went back to the kitchen and started my housework again.
The silence in the front room surprised me. I looked in.

Once upon a time， there was a spider with the name Anansi. He knew that he was very clever but he also knew he wasn’t wise. He didn’t like this， but he did not know what to do. One day he had an idea. He went around the village with a basket and asked each person to give him some of their wisdom. The people laughed at Anansi because they knew that he needed wisdom the most. So each person put a bit in his basket and wished him good luck.
Soon his basket was full， but Anansi was worried that his neighbors might be jealous(嫉妒)of his wisdom and take _it_ from him. He decided to hide it at the top of a tall tree. When he had tied the basket to the front part of his body， he tried to climb the tree， but it was too difficult. He tried again and again without success.
