Success is not easy to talk about because for some people it means power(权力), for some people it means wealth(财富), for others it is fame(名声) or great achievements(成就). But I have my own understanding of it. There are different ways to succeed.
Success means to try your best. Many people believe that success means to win. In my opinion, it means to try your best when you do everything, no matter you will win or not. When you are taking part in a long-distance race, if you keep on running as fast as you can, you are successful, although you may be the last to pass the finishing-line.
Success means to work hard. No one can be successful without any hard work. Tomas Edison succeeded, because he had experimented(实验) thousands of times to find the best material for lights. Every success calls for hard work.
Success means not to lose heart. No one can always be the winner. You will certainly lose or fail some day. It is important for you not to lose heart. Nobel had failed many times when he was doing his experiments. Sometimes his lab was on fire and he was nearly killed. But he never lost heart and kept on trying. Finally he invented a new explosive（炸药）. So when you fail or meet any difficulty, just believe in yourself, stand up and give the difficulty a heavy strike(一击).

Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship（友谊） back. That is why some friendships don’t last（持续） very long. To have a friend, you must learn to treat （对待）your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous；be understanding.
Honesty means being honest. It is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you don’t tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you haven’t been honest, you may lose your friend’s trust. Good friends always count on（依赖） one another to speak and act honestly.
Generosity means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You don’t have to give your friend your lunch money or your clothes, or enjoy your hobbies and interests together. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be very valuable（有价值的） to a friend. They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them, you help your friend know you better.
Sooner or later everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve . Turning to a friend can be a first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend, you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend’s place, so you can understand the problem better.

Many people say that they are working too many hours. They don’t have enough time to relax or to stay with their family.
Work hours are different from one country to another. In France, people spend about 1,646 hours a year at work. In Japan, however, people work about 2,159 hours a year. That means a Japanese worker works 513 more hours a year than a French worker.
Why do people work so many hours? Some people work extra hours because they want to make more money. However, many companies don’t pay overtime. Their workers don’t get more money for more work. Some people think it’s their duty to work more hours. Some are afraid of losing their jobs if they don’t work more hours.
Many people say that their vacations are too short. In France, people get five weeks of paid vacation a year. In Germany, they get four to six weeks, and in the United States, two weeks. One study shows fewer than half of workers used all their vacation days. In Great Britain, there is a saying, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull (迟钝的) boy.” If that is true, there must be a lot of dull people in the world.
