After school, I went home unhappily. It was dark in the room. Suddenly the lights were on, and I heard the song “Happy birthday”. There are many colors in nature. But do you think that a color has weight? I think you'll say “no”. But I'm afraid you are wrong. If you don't believe it, you may do a small experiment (实验).

First, put two objects with the same weight into two boxes. Then cover the boxes. Third, wrap(色裹) one box with a red piece of paper, the other one with a white piece of paper. OK.Now hold the boxes with your hand one by one.It is certain that you will think the red one is a little heavier.

Why do you think so? A scientist found that different colors have different weights in man's mind. That is to say, every color has its own weight in our mind.

The scientist told us that colors also have smell. Can you smell the color? Of course not. Then why did the scientist say so. That is because every color stands for (代表) a kind of light with a certain wavelength (波长).It reaches our brain through sense organs.

According to this discovery, scientists say that people accept the colors they like, and refuse the colors they hate.So your body and mind will be healthy by using the colors you like.Or you'll be nervous or even get ill. For example,  you like blue and hate red.If you stay in a room with red windows, wallpaper and furniture for two hours, you'll feel you have been there for four hours. But if the room is blue, you'll feel you have been there for only an hour. And, if a person walks out of a blue room and into a red room, his temperature will rise.

That means our body temperature will change with different colors.

1.From the experiment, we know that_________.

A.the two boxes have the same weight

B.colors can change the weight of an object

C.the red paper is heavier than the white paper

D.colors have different weights in people's mind

A.the smell of colors is changeable(可变的)

B.people can sense the light from colors

C.people can smell the colors through the nose

D.all the colors have the same smell for the blind

3.Which of the following is true?    ____.

A.White color is heavier than red color

B.People may get ill if they refuse the colors they don't like

C.People can stay longer in red rooms than in blue rooms

D.People's body temperature will change with different colors

4.We can infer from the last paragraph that____.

A.red color is bad for our health

B.people may get nervous in a red room

C.blue color can raise(提升)our body temperature

D.colors can influence our mood(情绪)and health

5.The passage is probably ____.

A.a short novel        B.a news report

Next time you’re in a public place, take a look around you, and count how many people are using their phones. I can tell you that it is probably more than half, whether you’re in a bus, in a café or simply walking down the street.

I’m not saying that I am not an example of this, but I wonder how people can spend so much time on their phones without actually talking to anyone in particular. We can now do almost anything with a phone. But has it gone too far? We spend too much time on our mobiles but not enough time talking to people in real life.

Last time I visited London, I traveled by subway. I noticed that almost everybody else

was on their phones except those who were asleep. People were playing games, reading articles and listening to music.

Recently, my smart phone broke and I had to use an old basic phone just to keep in touch with my family and friends. I could only send text messages, make calls and play one game with it. And I loved it. I loved being free from the Internet, and I really didn’t mind what my friends were doing or what the latest news was. I could enjoy my time watching the people around me and seeing what was going on.

However, I  knew that as soon as I got my smart phone back, I would be one of those people once again.

1.The writer finds that _________ people are using their phones in public places.

A. most      B. few        C. half       D. all

2.Which of the following cannot be done on a phone?

A. Playing games.      B. Sending text messages.

C. Listening to music. D. Having meals.

3.The writer could use his old basic phone to __________.

A. surf the Internet

B. watch the people around him

C. play one game

D. look through the latest news

4.What didn’t the writer see on the subway when he visited London?

A. People were sleeping.

B. People were talking with each other.

C. People were playing games.

D. People were using their phones.

5.From this article, we know that __________.

A. everybody was on their phones when the writer traveled in London by subway

B. most people spend enough time talking to people in real life

C. the writer enjoyed his time without his smart phone

D. the writer won’t use his smart phone any more
