When I was 12,all I wanted was a signet(...

When I was 12all I wanted was a signet(图章)ring. They were the “in” thing and it seemed every girl except me had one. On my 13th birthday. My mom gave me a signet ring with my initials(拼音字母)carved into it. I was in heaven.

What made it even special was that it was about the only thing that wasn’t being “replaced”. We’d been burnt out in fires that swept through our area earlier that year and had lost everything----so most of the new stuff(东西)we got was really just to replace what we’d lostbut not my ring. My ring was new.

Then, only one month later, I lost itI took it off before bed and it was missing in the morning. I was sad and searched everywhere for it. But it seemed to have disappeared. At lastI gave up and stopped looking for it. And two years later, we sold the house and moved away.

Years passed, and a couple of moves later, I was visiting my parents' when Mum told me that  she had something for me. It wasn’t my birthday, nor was it Easter or Christmas or any gift-giving occasion(时机).Mum noticed my questioning look. “You’ll recognize this one.” She saidsmiling.

Then she handed me a small ring box. I took it from her and opened it to find my beautiful signet ring inside.

The family who had bought our house 13 years earlier had recently decided to do some redecorationwhich includes replacing the carpets. When they pulled the carpet up in my old bedroom, they found the ring. As it had my initials carved into itthey realized who owned the ring. They'd had it professionally cleaned up by a jeweler before sending it to my mother. And it still fits me.

A. fashionable B. available

A. She lost her life in the fire.

3.When she got the ring back, the writer was about_______ .

A. 13 years old  B. 15 years old

C. 26 years old   D. 28 years old

4.Why did the writer think her signet ring was new in the second paragraph?

B. The writer got back her signet ring that she has lost.

C. The ring was professionally cleaned up by a jeweler.

D. The family sent it back to her parents with kindness.

5.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A. The writer's family moved several times.

B. The writer never stopped looking for her ring.

C. The writer's ring was cleaned up by the new house owner.

D. The writer lost her ring in the morning when she took it off.

6.What’s the best title for the passage?

A. My New Ring               B. Lost and Found

C. Lost and Replaced         D. An Expensive Ring

故选A。 On my 13th birthday. My mom gave me a signet ring with my initials(拼音字母)carved into it. I was in heaven. 故选A。 Years passed,and a couple of moves later... 故选A。

Think about the different ways that people use the wind. You can use it to fly a kite or to sail a boat. Wind is one of our cleanest and richest power sources, as well as one of the oldest. Something shows that windmills(风车)began to be used in ancient Iran back in the seventh century BC. They were first introduced to Europe during the 1100s, when armies returned from the Middle East with knowledge of using wind power.

For many centuries, people used windmills to make wheat into flour(面粉) or get water from deep underground. When electricity was discovered in the late 1800s, people living in faraway areas began to use them to produce electricity. This allowed them to have electric lights and radio. However, by the 1940s when electricity was available to people in almost all areas of the United States, windmills were hardly used.

During the 1970s, people started becoming more cared about the pollution that is created when coal and gas are burned to produce electricity. People also realized that the supply of coal and gas would run out one day. Then, wind was rediscovered, though it means higher costs. Today, there is a global movement to supply more and more of our electricity through the use of wind.

A. In the 1100s.    B. In the 1940s.

C. In the 1970s.  D. In the 1800s

4.Why was wind rediscovered during the 1970s?

A. Because coal and gas had been used up.

B. Because it was cheaper to produce electricity.

C. Because it’s cleaner than other sources.

D. Because it could only be used in faraway areas.
