These days,a TV play called You Who Came from the Stars is very popular in China, especially with young people. So we have a discussion about pros and cons of being a star fan. Some students think being a star fan can make more friends. Stars work hard for their dreams, so the students can learn from them. They can also get relaxed and have fun talking about their favorite stars. But some students think it’s a waste of money to buy stars’ things. The star fans always think about stars, so they will spend less time on their study. That makes their teachers and parents unhappy. In my opinion, we shouldn’t spend too much time and money on stars. We should study hard and try to be a star ourselves. 如:a TV play called…;have a discussion about pros and cons of being a star fan. learn from ; get relaxed and have fun talking about their favorite stars. it’s a waste of money to buy stars’ things. I went to bed at 11pm, it was snowing. I slept deep and my clock didn’t work. It was so cold that I didn’t want to get up again. I called my mother “Mom, my alarm clock is dead, but tomorrow morning I need to get up at six o’clock to catch an early bus . Can you give me a wakeup call?” My mother’s voice was a little dull, “Fine, dear.”

Phone rings pulled me out of my dreams. Mom said from the other end of the line,“It is time to get up, and you need to catch the early bus.” I looked at my watch-5:40.“Didn’t I ask you to wake me up at SIX?” I complained.“Let me have some more sleep, please!”

I got up and ready for the trip. It was a dark, cold morning, and everywhere was filled with snow. As I reached the bus stop, I found a white-haired couple(夫妻) had already been waiting. “You see, you didn’t sleep at all night and got here so early,” the man murmured( 喃喃细语) to his wife.

The bus finally came. The driver was a very young man. He waited just long enough for me to get on before he started the bus again. “Please wait,” I said to the driver. “There are two older people that need to get on, too. It is so cold, and they have waited for a long time. How could you leave them behind?”

Without stopping the bus, the young driver said“That’s OK, they are my parents. This is my first day on the job, so they came to make sure I was all right.”

I couldn’t hold back my tears. My mobile phone rang, incoming was my father’s message, “Sweetie, your mom is not feeling well, she was awake most of the night so that she wouldn’t miss your wakeup call.”

The wakeup call, the older couple, the young driver…reminded me of a Jewish proverb:

“When a father gives something to his son, the son smiles; when a son gives something to his father, the father cries.”

Two students started quarreling at school. One student shouted dirty words at the other, and a fight began.

What can be done to stop fights like this at school? In some schools, disputants ( 争执者 ) sit down with peer mediators (同龄调解员). Peer mediators are usually students with special training in this kind of problem.

Peer mediators help disputants to talk in a friendly way. Here are some of the ways they use.

Express what you think clearly but don’t say anything to hurt the other. Begin with “I feel” instead of “You always”.

Listen carefully to what the other person is saying. Don’t stop the other person’s words.

Keep looking at the other person’s eyes when he or she is speaking.

Try to see the problems on the other person’s side.

Never put anyone down . Saying things like “You are foolish” makes the talk difficult.

Try to find a result that makes both people happy.

Peer mediators never decide on the winner. They don’t decide who is right or who is wrong. Instead they help disputants find their own“win-win” result. A “win –win” result can make everyone feel good.

Peer mediators’ work is often successful just because it gets disputants to talk to each other. And getting disputants to talk to each other is the first step in finding a “win-win” result.

2.What does the underlined phrase“put anyone down” mean in Chinese?

A. 贬低任何人              B. 落后于任何人

3. What’s the first step in finding a “win-win” result?

A.Letting disputants be afraid of peer mediators.

B.Letting disputants feel peer mediators are kind.

C.Letting disputants to talk to each other.

D.Letting disputants feel good by telling funny stories.

4. During the talk, if peer mediators say“You are a fool,”__________.

A.disputants will realize they are wrong.

B.disputants will understand peer mediators better.

C.it is easy for peer mediators to decide who is right.
